Blue Velvet  (1986)

I saw it before, the year it came out, and didn't know what to make of it then, as I liked and disliked it at the same time.
This time I realized the reasons for the ambivalence.  I like thrillers and even an occasional horror movie, but don't care for a lot of blood and gore.  I prefer the psychological style.

By the same token, I like a quirky story, but didn't care for the in-your-face perversion this movie throws at you.
On the plus side, it did have it's share of surprises.  I liked the cast, maybe I just don't like David Lynch (though I loved his Twin Peaks tv show, as it was more suggestive than blatant).

Saw Chinatown this week. DIdn't really like it
eja, besides me, you are the only person not to like "Chinatown"...we should for a "march to another drummer" or "tasteless few" club, ha ha ha.  (Although I still can't claim to have actually seen it.  I keep falling asleep when it is on.)
I admit I also saw it in chunks. I can't imagine watching it all the way through

Yikes.

Do you like other film noirs (or hardboiled detective) movies?

Ever seen Miller's Crossing, or Brick or movies like that?

I saw "If a Tree Falls" -- http://www.ifatreefallsfilm.com/ -- recently. Very thought-provoking documentary. I highly recommend it.

Um.  Gattaca?  AI?  Vertigo. Basic Instinct. Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Batman Begins. Dark Knight. Pulp Fiction. Fight Club. Fargo. Reservoir Dogs.

So yeah. I like it sometimes

saw Killer Elite today and really liked it.  Not a huge Statham fan (think he is best when he is a co-star and not main character), but this movie was a lot of fun.

I watched detective Dee and the mystery of the phantom flame. I watched the english subbed version (it's Chinese).  I thought it was really good. Tons of action. A plot that wasn't totaly predictable, and great fight scenes (for those who dont mind wire work).

Saw "The Guard" last night.  Pretty funny movie.  Irish dialect was tough to follow sometimes.  Don Cheadle was perfectly cast as an FBI agent working alongside an eccentric, old school rural Irish cop.
Yup

Just saw Moneyball...What an incredible incredible movie. For me, I think it was easily the best sports movie Ive ever seen. Truly amazing piece of art.

Donnie Brasco
I personally think that this is just as good as the similar The Departed. Al Pacino was incredible and so wasn't Johnny Depp.
