Watched City of God again, as I haven't watched it in about a year.  Reminded me why it's one of my favorite movies ever.

Burlesque.

I am usually not into musicals (Camelot and Rocky Horror were the only two I was into before), so when I talked my wife into watching it with me (my 3rd time)she was really curious as to why I would be into it.

After seeing me mesmerized by Christina Aguilera for about a half hour, she gave me a smartass "Now I know why you've watched this movie twice already" comment.

I told her what I'm telling you all: that aside from the pleasantly provocative images in the film  (that I have to admit that I enjoyed) man can that girl sing!!!!!!!!!!

Powerful, soulful voice.

Her rendition of the award winning "Bound to You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p52SqtcCN4s
blows me away, especially within the context of the movie.

Also, did I mention that she is pretty easy on the eyes.

My wife then blew me away with a recent image of Christina where she looks like she weighs about a buck eighty. Boy my wife's a real killjoy!!

- That last Harry Potter film.
I'm so happy this is over, done with, no more. Really didn't like having to see them (my girlfriends did) but being stuck with a half story drives me mad too. So that's settled. Overall, this is the messiest series of films I've ever seen. Way too much happens way too fast. Didn't like it at all, and if I never have to see any of them again, I'd be happier for it.

- Captain America
Slightly too long (about 20 minutes) but "alright", I didn't mind what they did to the costume, but I don't necessarily see what makes Cap that special. I know what makes him special in the comics, but over here he's just a bit too... human, I guess. Hugo Weaving is enormous in this film, loved his character to bits, great portraying of Red Skull.

- The Human Centipede II: full sequence
This film, as opposed to its predecessor, seems to be made entirely to just: gross, you, out. I say it like that, because it does a great job at it, and it's certainly not for those who are faint of heart. Actually, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but those that enjoy gore, rotten.com-style. There's little to no character progression aside from that of the main character, so you don't necessarily feel for much for the victims. A shame, because the main character does a really solid acting job.

- Iron Man 2
Saw it in the cinema and was slightly disappointed, but I'm going to have to retract that statement. It's a great film, and upon second review, I can get over the replacement of Terrence Howard for Don Cheadle. He's "different", not "worse". I enjoyed every single moment of the film it to such an extend, that I watched it again the next day, with my girlfriend. It definitely holds his own next to the first installment of this series, and I'm looking forward to seeing Downey in "The Avengers" next year.

I saw this movie during the summer.  Then last week I saw a documentary called "Cultures of Resistance", and the section on the slums of Rio was just like "City of God".  In one scene (that seemed to be filmed on a cell-phone camera), a cop stopped two teens on bicycles, looked in their gym bags, then pulled out his gun and shot them both.  On a busy street.  Just like that.

I did like City of God, though, as it showed a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Norma Rae (1979)

Sally Fields won an Oscar for her role in the movie.  She is a stressed out mom who works in a textile factory and joins forces with a union organizer. Overall a very good movie. I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5.

I saw Super 8 last night.  Speilberg production again creates compelling child characters but neglects developing the adult characters or the 'extra-terestrial' character. Could have tugged harder on the heart in the end OR could have developed a tragic ending -- unfortunately, they tried a little of both and accomplished neither.  Yet, a fun watch overall that held my attention.

"Pieces of April" Thursday night and "The Ice Storm" Friday night - the most depressing yet glorious Thanksgiving movies.

Great acting performances all around from Christina Ricci, Katie Holmes, Kevin Kline, Tobey Maguire, Elijah Wood, Sigourney Weaver, etc. A little side of angst with your turkey. Dysfunctional families all around.

How can one not love the Muppets?

Used to play this online game, where my nickname was "Dr. Bunsen"!

Bridesmaids.

I liked it but was still disappointed.  It was marketed as a female version of The Hangover, and received rave reviews.  The first hour or so was certainly that, and I found it to be really funny, especially Melissa McCarthy's character.  Unfortunately, the whole thing just goes off a cliff.  They completely forget about most of the supporting characters, and turn the movie into a generic girlfriend flick, with an incredibly cheesy and borderline embarrassing ending.  The ending alone killed any desire to see it again.  8 out of 10 for the first 90 minutes, and 4 out of 10 for the last half hour, so let's call it a 6.5 out of 10.

I just watched that today and I thought it was great.  Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph were both fantastic, and I didn't think that it was a "generic girlfriend flick" at all.  I don't remember ever seeing a female lead in a romantic comedy quite like the character of Annie.

Brilliant!

Birdesmaids was sooooo terrible! I was so beyond dissappointed with this! Expectations might have been too high and then it was just terrible. Kristen Wiig's character was so unlikeable and she was just a downright B who was way too annoying for her own good. I honestly smirked twice. I watched it some extended family around the holidays and we thought we rented the wrong movie because everyone thought it was so terrible!!

I watched Goodfellas and Snatch (surprisingly for the first times) last. And they both lived up to their hype big time.
