Actually it is the knicks that won't sign him.

Do you think Danny would really gamble on A.I. like he did with Marbury last year?

here are Ainge's most recent thoughts on Allen Iverson (interview earlier this month)

Quote
How would you handle having [Allen] Iverson and [Zach] Randolph on the same team?

I’ve wondered about that. I feel like Iverson still has a lot to offer. He needs to play. He’s always been a guy that wants to play. You can imagine guys on that level that play a lesser role, that’s a tough sell. You can talk about it, but when he gets out there he wants to play. He wants to prove he’s still one of the best players of all time. He’s not a guy that’s just a good player, an All-Star player, he’s one of the leading scorers in the history of this game. Coming off the bench averaging eight points a game, that’s going to hurt that career average.

He must have known what his role would be on that team.

I’m glad I don’t have those issues.

That last line is the kicker for me.  I'm hoping he gives a quiet "no thanks" to this whole situation.

Ainge also talked about AI in his weekly appearence on the Big Show this week.

http://greenstreet.weei.com/sports/boston/basketball/celtics/2009/11/18/danny-ainge-on-the-big-show-2/

It seems pretty clear that (based on exactly how they handled the Marbury situation last year) AI would have to sit down with management and agree to a VERY small role before Ainge would think about it. Is he going to do that?

My sense is Ainge feels that they don't need to do anything at this point...

Here's hoping, love to see clev get worse.

You guys really think Iverson would care about his career scoring average if he was on a championship contending team?

Yes, on the freaking Grizzlies, I can understand Iverson using them as a stage to prove he still had game left, and when he wasn't given that opportunity he felt betrayed and quit.

He cared on the Pistons.

A.I wasn't the main problem on the Pistons last year , it was their coach. Even Rip Hamilton blamed Curry for the horrible season Detroit had last year

Quote
Allen Iverson(notes) isn't doing much for the Memphis Grizzlies yet this season since he's out with an injury but he's now saying that his lack of performance last year with the Detroit Pistons can mostly be blamed on his coach, Michael Curry, according to Detroit News. And Pistons guard Rip Hamilton is agreeing with him.

"It could have worked out," said Hamilton. "I just thought the coach we had at the time (didn't) put us in situations where we all could be at our best. When you don't have that, it makes it difficult."

Iverson clearly felt that way. He's saying that if he had been playing under current Pistons coach John Kuester, things could have been a lot different. "It would have been a hundred percent different -- a thousand percent better. I would have known what I was getting into," he said. One of Iverson's main beefs about Curry was that he wasn't straightforward with is players.

Even Sheed quit at the end of the year and we seem to have no trouble cheering for him as a Celtic....

I don't really want AI on this team. He could fit and could be a great weapon off the bench, but it's a lot of ifs. If he came here I would rout for him, but I rather not have to.

We took on Mikki Moore and Starbury last year.

Not giving a guy like AI a chance is just wrong, in so many ways.

It would be a shame to not get this guy. I mean we some how were able to do Marbury and House in the same lineup how come we couldn't do the same with Iverson and House? Plus Daniels could cover someone as well. Idk i mean i would love to see Iverson get a ring but deep down inside i know he is a cancer. I think we could change him though. So we will see. Interesting how this is unraveling.

All the issues we didn't have with Marbury we WILL have with Iverson.

I remember 2-3 years ago, a lot of people around here wanted to inclued Al Jefferson in a trade for AI (I was not one). Now most of us wouldn't sign him for the minimum. Just shows once you hit the wall, you hit the wall.
