What about a sign and trade for Jamario Moon?

What are we signing and trading for him?  I doubt Miami wants any of our scraps, and their roster is already full of expiring contracts.

good question. either scal or TA and a 1st or giddens or walker? i just broke my own 'no more stupid trade ideas based around scal, ta and giddens' rule...

Bad news for us.  We have very limited options if Grant Hill signs with the Knicks.
Udoka, Mason, Barnes, Marvin Williams, Linas Kleiza, Von Wafer, Marquis Daniels, Fred Jones, Jamario Moon, Bobby Jackson, Rodney Carney, Joey Graham.
Williams, Moon and Kleiza are restricted free agents so they would need to come in a sign and trade.
Bowen and Stackhouse will also be bought out.
So we have a decent amount of options still.

Udoka - Okay, more a SG than SF
Mason - 7 PER last season.  No thanks.
Barnes - Slow, not such a great defender.
Williams - Out of our league.
Kleiza - Probably out of our league.
Von Wafer - Okay.
Marquis Daniels - Probably the next best option available.
Fred Jones - No.  He's a PG sized SG.
Moon - Probably out of our price range.  Ok if not.
Bobby Jackson - Ok for backup PG
Rodney Carney - Eh...I'd rather see what Giddens or Walker can do if we're down to that.
Joey Graham - Same deal as Rodney.  Plus he can't shoot.
Bowen - Ancient, okay as fourth wing, not primary backup.
Stackhouse - No thanks.

You forgot Keith Bogans too.

Really, though, you just proved my point.  All of these guys are either out of our price range or a big step down from Grant Hill.  Some of these guys are just a small step above what we'd be liable to get from Walker or Giddens.

Man, what a lame move if true. His wife's singing "career"? Sad..
This is so so sad. No one cares about your crappy "career" Tamia.
Sigh, now we're screwed because of her "career."

doesn't he have like 5 years left on contract?

4 yup.

18.4 mill.

Only way I'd want to get Garcia is if we traded TA+Scal+Giddens+Pruitt (over 7 mill in expiring contracts) for Garcia and Nocioni.  Saves the Kings a solid chunk of money, although it ties up our cap for the meantime with Andres.

I don't see it happening though.

Eh...  the difference is, what, about $4 million after taxes?  After Hill has earned $100 million in his career (largely for rehabbing injuries), I wouldn't think the money is *that* big of a difference.

Still, it's his employment choice, and I'm not going to get on his case for it.  It just isn't the choice I'd make.
Well, those 100 million weren't tax free either, so adjust accordingly. Money probably doesn't sit in a in a jar at home either, so there's no telling how much of it was lost.

Plus, if the Celtics are offering 2 years at the LLE, and the Knicks -- 10 million over 3 years, the difference is 6 million, not three.

And that's not even considering there might be other non-pecuniary reasons that Hill might want to move to NY.

it was a 5 year, 30 mil extension, so it averages 6.

why would we want both garcia and nocioni? combined they make too much for our expirings (not including house) anyway...

Yeah...I was basing my idea off his $2 mil salary this last year, didn't realize his extension was a raise too.

I really think Grant Hill does not want to come to the Celtics because he is terrified of playing in important games and losing.  At this point in his career he is much happier to play on a bad team, put up a few numbers and not have to kill himself all season.  I don't want Hill anymore he can go someplace else, he was never a great fit anyways.  Average defender at best, not an outside shooter, limited slasher these days because he is old.  We need young energetic legs off the bench, that can energize the team not Hill.
