I'm not disappointed in Perk in any way, at all, period. He didn't mean to do it, and he's not a goon at all. He's the man, plain and simple, and he was trying to prevent an easy basket in a close game. Looking at this play and saying its thuggish and disappointing... please. Just last friday my team was down 3 with 8 seconds left in the game, and we messed our press up and left a guy wide open downcourt. I had to sprint down and foul him, but he stopped short about 7 feet from the hoop, and so I ended up wrecking him. He slid into the wall beyond the baseline. It was a HARD foul. Harder than Perk's. But you know what? I didn't get a technical, or a flagrant, or even a warning. We just lined up for the one and one. There wasn't even any discussion on the foul, and the guy I fouled wasn't even bothered by the incident. Perk did absolutely nothing wrong, and to say that you're "disappointed" or "ashamed" of him is ridiculous. It was a moderately hard foul. Deal with it.

Plenty of hard contact plays develop when guys are going full speed, thats obvious an accident. Perk was calculated when he did this play so its a hard comparison to make.

You percieve it was calculated. Can you read Perks thoughts at that exact moment?

Just because Perk said that, doesn't mean it wasn't calculated.

If he was to come out and say he deliberately did what he did, then it'd increase his chances of getting suspended.

I posted earlier saying I believe the hit was calculated, as I believe his response to reporters when they questioned him about the incident after the game was calculated.

I could be wrong, but from what I saw, that was the best observation I could draw from it.

If this was soemthing that he did on a regular basis then I would be disappointed. But I don't think that this makes him a dirty player. Besides, Maxiell was in the way with perks ball he had no business going to the hooop like that. The man who is really at fault here is Derrick Coleman, he'e a bad influence. He was the one that said you have 6 fouls to give so use them or something like that. Perk obvioulsy saw that commercail and it stuck with him as a kid. I woneder if he can be sued for corrupting a minor?

When I see a follow through like that on a foul I personally consider it a calculated blow. That obviously isn't good enough for a lot of the people here. In the future I will wear my green shades at all times.

Whatever. So if people don't agree with you obviously they are just homers.

Guess that would make you a hater then.  ::)

I've already been asked to admit that I hate Perk in the beginning of this thread because I thought it was an unneccesary foul. I've spend years on this site defending Paul Pierce for doing much less than this. We are all homers here.

Still, I think only Perk knows if it was calculated or not. Same with any player that is involved in a similar incident. Not just a Celtic player either.

Dirty players are winners, sorry but thats the truth..Its not like perk does this in every game, but I have no problem with it, he deserved to be ejected (this day and age) fine, but its not the end of the world, so he may be a little bit dirty..so what is it really the end of the world that your best post defender is a big physical, mean SOB who can get dirty? no..

he didnt do anything once play stopped, he took his punishment like a man and left the ball game and didnt initaite in any BS after the whistle was blown, thats all I can ask of him, but when that ball is in play..hell you go big fella
When you got it going, you got it going. I just keep my focus down the stretch. That's when I want the ball. I'm just not afraid to fail."-PaulPierce

Everyone has moments of poor judgment. This was Perkin's. But its the same impulse that causes him to blow up Deron Williams after he steps on Rondo's head. Or after Amar'e took a cheap on at KG to just plow him into the seats. Or many others I either didn't see or can't remember.

You need some guys like that on winning basketball teams. The key is to do it without hurting your team or the injuring other players. Last game Perk risked hurting Maxiell and hurt the team, bad decision. But I still love the guy, I maintain that if Bynum and Shaq weren't suspended then Perk shouldn't/won't be either.

I was suprised by the play, didn't see it coming. But Maxiel was playing very physical on both ends and those two were banging back and forth on more than one occasion leading up to that play. Who knows what was being said back and forth between them as well. Maybe Perk just siad screw it, I'm giving this guy a shot. Everyone loses their temper sometimes.

However, I think the Bynum foul was way worse. The guy was airborne and Bynum just drilled him with an elbow. Looked like Perkins just trhough his arm around his head shoulders and threw Maxiel down. It wasn't like he took a swing. I thought Maxiell should have been ejected as well not so much for pushing Perkins but for the swing he took at Rondo. That was a swing.

Finally, it just suprised me because Perkins was in a position to make a good defensive play. So not just making that play but rather giving the hard fould makes me wonder what words were going back and forth...

Still, suprised but not necessarily disappointed. Perkins has to be the tough guy every night and people come hard at him too.

Exactly what I thought.  Seems he could have easily given a hard foul while "appearing" to go for the ball considering he had him pinned under the basket.  Thank goodness for the $10,000 fine and Perk still being on the floor.  From yesterday's broadcast, it certainly sounds like Perk was expecting more.

Yeah Racker, I think it may have had more to do with some ongoing dialogue between those two. They were banging for sure and maxiel was really banging with a few guys on our team. Maybe they were talking too and Perk just said screw it...I'm whacking this guy...I'm tired of this. But again, I thought it wasn't a terribly "dangerous play" play like the one Bynum did. Whenever you take a shot at an airborne guy, there is the potential for serious, even career ending injury.

In this case, Perk just wrapped him up and threw him down. There wasn't alot of chance for serious injury on that play.

I wouldn't have argued much if Perk got suspended for a game because he really made no attempt on the ball which is not cool, it's not basketball.

I he wanted to whack the guy, his better option would have been to really rake the guy's arms as he went up for the shot...would have made the point and wouldn't have gotten the T's and ejection, Maxiell probably misses one of two free throws...

It was a dangerous attempted throwdown and Perk's body language during and after doing it was uncalled for. I can't believe he would do something like that and it reflects poorly on the Celtics.

What body language? Am I missing something? Maxiell got up like he was Ben Wallace going after Ron Artest, punched rondo and was initiating a brawl, Perkins did nothing after the foul but leave the game when ejected...ugh

He threw him down like he was tossing a piece of trash and his facial expression and manner he did the throwdown was wrong. If I was Maxiell I would probably be ****ed as well. I like Perk but if the scenario was reversed and a guy did that to someone on our team I would be livid.

I think perk was in the wrong, but nothing makes me giggle more than when people start interprting facial expressions and body posture to mysterisly have prof X powers with regards to what players are thinking/feeling.

Its just so silly to me. "I don't mind the occasional (insert bad thing), but did you see his body language!!! thats what really tells the story!"

just silly IMO.

Having heard Perk's explanation I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I also don't think his expression or body language after the foul tells us much.

well what do you know Perk has his usual expression in the second photo ;D now Maxiell on the other hand...
