  • You know my methods, Watson.
basketball has become too "wussified" for my taste...yes, i understand the idea of keeping things under control.

but i believe part of the problem is that the nba has become associated with violence that comes from the hip-hop culture...i don't want to say too much because i'll become branded and labeled and harrassed.

but think about hockey: they allow actual fighting in games and it's a necessary part of the sport.  if you don't follow and love hockey (of which i do) then you don't see this.

so why can one sport (basketball) get hyper-sensitive to a guy getting fouled hard, yet another sport (hockey) to protect the star players allow for fist-fights?  answer: it's the culture surrounding the people who play the game.

if that offends any of you i apologize and i'm not pushing prejudice or racism...it's a cultural issue and that cannot be denied.

In my opinion, the foul was a flagrant 2 and perk should have been ejected. I'm 50-50 on whether he should be suspended. I don't think he should, actually. Bynum's foul was just as dangerous and he wasn't suspended.

And second, in the bigger picture, I believe that the refs are culpable for Perkins' hard foul in a game like last night's. If the refs let a game grow continually more and more physical, something like this will happen. It was clear to me that Perkins' foul was due to frustration at not getting the defensive rebound; the only reason Maxiell got the rebound was because he got away with a blatant shove in the back of House. That foul should be called; when the refs let stuff like that go, the players get frustrated and the play gets more physical, and something bad happens. The refs need to take care of their business so that the players don't feel like they need to.

TatteredOnMySleeve you got to be one of the biggest celtics homers i've seen in this thread. You can take it as a compliment or diss but its the truth

If i was maxiel i would be pizzed(because he played with an edge does he deserved to be whacked?). If perk really felt he didn't do the wrong with his foul he would have faught back. Perk won't back down from anyone but once he fould and walked away you knew he knew he messed up.

I saw the clip and feel though he wasn't trying to headhunt but was careless in his fouling (and i don't blamed him for fouling through)

The officials i hope see the way i saw it and won't suspend him.

There is always going to be that underlying issue of race when it comes to MLB vs. NHL vs. NBA. The reason the NBA has become wussified is because of the hip-hop vibe it gives off. Many people associate hip-hop with violence and the stuff pushed onto the airwaves does little to assuage some of these perceptions. I wouldn't be surprised if many people are turned off by it.

Thus, the reason the NBA has become so pussified is that NBA corporate probably prefers to have a family friendly environment completely devoid of any passion, hooting and hollering, chest bumping, or taunting. Ever since the Palace Brawl, the NBA has tried to sterilize the NBA to try and rehab its image. I think that's a shame. It turns off many diehards in order to attract a general audience.

I accept Perk's explanation. The refs took the appropriate action and ejected him to prevent further escalation. I thought he went overboard with this particular foul, but I can certainly appreciate players giving hard fouls. I cannot believe that he intended to injure Maxiell. I do not believe a suspension is warranted anymore than Bynum's foul.

Um okay, and you dont seem like a celtic fan at all triboy, you hate doc, you whine about celtics blowouts and now are defending maxiell over perk.. sorry im defending Perk, but I clearly said time after time that he deserved to be ejected, period. the people saying how perk handled himself after the foul was "dissapointing" just got me scratching my head, thats all..why, because he walked off ignorning the taunting from maxiell and left the game without saying a word? what was he suppose to knock the thug out after getting pushed and taunted?

Maxiell can be mad all he wants, fine, but you cant go around pushing and punching people no matter how hard you get fouled. they were both wrong imo, except perk didnt do a thing once the play was whistled dead except look remoresful and leave

BTW, I watched the replay this morning, and I was wrong on this too - Maxiell didn't punch Rondo, he pushed him with an open hand.  The T he got was appropriate for his response, and he won't be suspended.

Didnt KG get a suspension for barely tapping Andrew Bogut for pushing him with an open hand, and the league said he was striking at bogut? i dunno, just saying

Heres the re-play, and Ill say it again, very dirty foul, deserved to be ejected, but to the people saying perk handled himself badly afterwards and was smiling about it, point out to me where  exactly that happened, he looked pretty remorseful if anything..he did absolutely nothing after the hard foul...and does maxiell think hes gonna beat up perk or something? LOL...
also, when big baby came in, I noticed hes taller than maxiell, which explains why Maxiell is such a pathetic rebounder, and it showed again when BBD got 2 huge offensive boards outhustling the thug, why do people say they'd like him in our team? we already have 2 cheaper versions of him, no thanks

and again, I see a punch thrown at rondo, I dont think theres any question about that

dude i'm a celtics fan for life but i'm not tranced like you no offense. Say if i really met rivers and he cursed me do you think i have to like him because he plays for my favorite team?? Its an off example but you get what i mean

Also you are focusing that maxiell didn't have to push perk the way he did and perk was a bigger man for walking away. Perk is the one who whacked him though and probably walked away cuz he felt he was guilty

Maxiel probably could have held the retaliation in check for his teams sake but i can't blame him for the push he gave perk. It could have got alot worst

How many times do I have to say the foul was wrong by perk?
And, again, yes IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE, if perk went back at maxiell after the push, but he didnt...

Well, it would be kind of foolish of me to defend Perk after complaining about how dirty Bynum's foul was the other night.
IMO both Bynum and Perk deserve to be suspended. Maybe for a game. Neither foul was outright assault, but both were excessive. Perk didn't just headlock Maxiell, he threw him to the floor as well. So, yes, Perk threw in a little extra for good measure.

honestly with the perk situation why it looks so devastating is that he fouled through. That is not totally his fault as coaches instill that type of fouling to happen to prevent a 3 point score.

Perks hands/arms was not aiming at his head but started the aim at the ball.

I've seen worst type of fouls where players actually don't go for the ball at all in dangerous situations.

The worst part of this is Now it just gives the critics and haters more ammunition against us, yet when bynum does the same thing, nothings mentioned, he doesnt get ejected or suspended and there are no re-plays on the media outlets
Ive been all over the web, and the most common responses are
"Max would destroy Perkins and KG"
"Why do the celtics back away after a hard foul"
"Why is KG such a wuss, why did he punch Maxiell"
"The celtics are thugs"
"KG is (blank) why does he always go after smaller players"
"Maxiell wouldve killed perkins but perkins backed off like a wuss"
"Maxiell didnt do anything, he didnt push rondo"
etc, etc etc.. not to mention the re-play has been everywhere
In that regards, it sucks.
Perks obviously going to get suspended, but for how long? and i wouldnt even be mad if the league wass just consistent, why the hell didnt bynum got suspended?

I watched it on an HD DVR frame-by-frame.  He swings the arm like a punch, but his hand is open and the effect is a hard shove that mostly clips Rondo's chest.  Probably won't be enough to get him suspended.

Well, then they should not have suspended KG earlier, but they did. The inconsistency of the league really annoys me because I am pretty sure you are right and he won't get suspended.
