Thats how all teams work, its a business and Lowell knows that. You want to put the best team on the field and you will hurt feelings in the process, Lowell would probably be upset but he would get over it and say he loved his time here. They arent "doing anything" to him, they are trying to better than team and the fact is Texiera is much better than Lowell. If they sign Tex then they WILL try to trade Lowell but it would be stupid to do that beforehand, whats best for the team is more important than Lowell's feelings. It is not being classless, its being smart and prepared, as much as i like Lowell im not worried about how he feels as im a Red Sox fan and Tex makes the team better.
Say the Red Sox trade Lowell tomorrow and Texiera signs elsewhere, was it worth it so Lowell can feel comfortable? Obviously not, if we sign Tex that will be great and Lowell most likely gets traded as a result, unfortunate for him but thats how it works. The Red Sox are not the only team to work this way, you have to make tough decisions and can't be overly loyal at the expense of the team.
As for you saying you'd love to see Lars Anderson get a shot, just no. He is not MLB ready, he still cant pull the ball with much authority and is still developing power while having trouble with off-speed stuff. There is absolutely no reason to see him in 2009 outside of a possible short September stint.
