I honestly don't care whether JT pushed for JB to be traded or not. It's a moot point now.
It's JT's team now, and frankly, I'm not very optimistic. Still, I genuinely hope he can elevate his game, become a better leader, and inspire his teammates the way JB did last season.
At the end of the day, I'm not rooting for JT or JB individually. I'm rooting for the Boston Celtics. I just want to see this team succeed because I love the Celtics.

I don't know about Tatum being informed on the deals. I think he could have been informed if he WANTED to be informed but everything we know about him and his dealings with the team throughout his time in Boston says he stays out of all that stuff. He does not like to be involved. He doesn't want that influence / pressure. He just wants to play ball.

Some players are like that. Some players are the opposite. They want influence. They want a voice. They want to be informed. Some want a major voice and push certain decisions. Nothing about Tatum and his history with this team suggests that. Everything points in the opposite direction. That he likes to stay out of the business of the front office & ownership.

My point = Players being in the know / informed is not a one size fits all. Most guys want it. Some guys don't. Everything we know about Tatum for several years says he does not want it.

I probably should have clarified in my post, I don't mean that Tatum knew every single rumor, report, or trade offer and that he was actively doing stuff behind the scenes. All I meant was that I don't think Tatum had no clue a Jaylen trade and discussions were happening behind the scenes like JT's been saying.

But that's just my opinion. You're also right with your post. Tatum is a player, not a front office member. I just think in the NBA, superstars especially tend to at least be informed or are kept in the loop. Ironically, I think Jaylen lamented the fact that he wasn't and he's said this in the past, that he wished he could offer more input or "be in the room" with Stevens more. Jaylen was also dangled in Durant trade rumors around 2022-2023 often.

And for example, that Luka trade. It was an obvious "of course" trade, but are we all convinced Lebron didn't know about it beforehand or that he wasn't aware they were dangling AD in potential trade offers since that ship started to sink a bit too.

Im sure JT knew JB was being discussed in trade talks.
Im sure JB knew that he was being discussed in trade talks.

But unless JT is in the war room, I doubt he knew the specifics of the deal or the timing of the deal. And if he really is as hands-off as he says he is, it wouldnt surprise me if he found out about the exact trade just moments after it was agreed upon.

And with how fast info gets leaked now with all these insiders, as soon as the deal was agreed, I would imagine the news practically broke within minutes (or hours) of the deal. Not days.

TP, this is how I think it went down too. Because of player-GMs like LeBum or Kawhi who previous front offices allowed to have a hand in creating the team, I think a lot of fans think that players are there in the background with the front office. I feel like it's really bad practice for an organization to do that because if your locker room thinks one of the players can trade you or influence your career, I don't think that's a good thing for that locker room. There's always a delineation of responsibilities - front office constructs the team, coaches coach the team, players play. Once you have the perception of overlap that's where trust breaks down (as it clearly has with JB in this case).

Now do players have a general idea of what's happening? Of course they do. We do, and we're not anywhere near as close to the team as them. Anyone can guess that someone might be on the trading block, just from rumors or their agents talking to each other or the NBA grapevine. But are they officially part of the decision making and know the details behind a trade to the point when it will happen? For a professional organization that manages leaks and information flow, I don't think they are, nor should they be.

Also keep in mind, trades aren't official until both sides agree - imagine telling JT "we're trading JB to Milwaukee for Giannis" then it falls through, then they tell him "change of plan, we're now trading JB to Philly for PG13" that's going to be a distraction for JT that the team could probably do without.

So did JT know or not? As LilRip said he probably knew that JB was being discussed in trade talks, as JB probably did himself, but did he know to who? Or when Brad pulled the trigger? I would be surprised if he did, given how professional the Celtics front office is. Of course, JB is a more suspicious kind of fella  :police:

Tatum dropped a 'sit-down' about his summer on his YouTube channel. Without any buildup, he straightaway opened the video by recalling the moment he found out about the blockbuster deal that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"We were in Vegas, I just got done playing pickup," Tatum recalled. "Sham [Shamgod] walked over. He handed me a towel. He's like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don't react. They just traded him.' I'm like, 'Oh s?! Where?' He said, 'Philly.' You traded him down the street? I was just as caught off guard as the rest of the world."
The exact clip is circulating on Instagram. On one such post, his former co-star publicly challenged the narrative with a single, pointed social media reaction.

Dropping into the comment section, the new 76ers centerpiece posted a solitary blue cap emoji (🧢 ). In no uncertain terms, he called Tatum's comments "cap," implying that Jayson Tatum's claim of being blindsided was not entirely accurate.

And people really thought we could salvage that relationship. There was no coming back from last year. Brown has always felt a type of way about Tatum.

So glad this insecure child is off the team.

Gimme a break buddy. Tatum wanted him off this team not the other way around. Remind me again who won ECF & Finals MVP? Oh yeah that?s brown and not Tatum. Who?s really the child? Tatum was jealous of that, deny it if you want. I?d be mad if I was.   Brown too. The guy was booed on draft night, fan base never wanted him, was in trade rumors for years, low balled on 2nd contract, and now smeared on this board with garbage takes about on off and whatnot. It?s a joke. And Jalen Brown is BY FAR in my opinion a tougher basketball player than Jayson Tatum will ever be. And you know it. But whatever. JT got what he wanted. You?re gonna see how soft he really is now? without JB no title. Anybody who thinks JT didn?t sign off on this has their head in the sand. JB is going to put it right in everybody?s face this year. He NEVER wanted to leave.   End rant

😂 JB stans are funny. Literally none of that has anything to do with why he was traded.

But, yes, you?re right. Tatum - literally the most mild-mannered superstar in the league - very likely pushed JB off the team. You can even evidence it by his LONG history of getting involved with team management decisions, like keeping his good friends on the team (Javonte Green, Marcus Smart, etc.) unnecessarily or demanding his long-term friends be signed (Bradley Beal). Nevermind his public statements where he clearly states he stays away from management decisions - he was likely lying.

And who can forget when the Celtics handed out a massive contract to Harry Giles after Tatum publicly tweeted "SIGN HIM"... oh wait, the Celtics didn't even offer Giles a training camp invite, 2-way contract or 10 day... just nothing.

It's clear that Tatum doesn't influence the front office, but more importantly Tatum knows he doesn't determine what the front office does. He heard the rumors like we all did. But he knew whatever happened was out of his hands. He's heard rumors more than we've ever heard that never ended up happening. I believe he was shocked, to some degree, that it actually happened, especially that exact trade.

The whole world knew that Brown was part of trade discussions.

I am agreeing with LilRip here, but I am still not clear as to what others are accusing Tatum of or criticizing him for.  Is it that he forced Brown out?  That he went to BOS management and said "I want you to trade Brown"?  And that management was influenced by this and that they would not have traded Brown otherwise?  Does anyone actually believe that?  I don't.  Or is the criticism that he didn't fight hard enough to keep him once it became known that BOS was discussion trading Brown?  I don't think Tatum did "fight" to keep Brown, nor would I expect him to.

Somehow, people are concluding from all of this that Tatum wanted Brown out or was somehow the cause of Brown being traded.  I don't get it.  Maybe if given truth serum, Tatum would say that he was happy to trade Brown for Giannis.  But I can't connect the dots from this to conclude that Tatum wanted Brown traded in a more general sense.

JB was the one who posted states with and without JT last year. He was the dude who said it was his favorite year. He is the one who constantly reminded everyone about what he "sacrificed."

So even if what you say is true, can you blame him?

BTW Andre Iguodala won Finals MVP as well. You taking him over steph?

I like a lot of things about JB's game, but many fans of the team overrated him. There's a reason we didn't get back much for him Every GM in the league wanted nothing to do with that contract and level of talent. If it were JT, we wouldn't have been begging for an offer.

Look how JB has been acting throughout this. He's been as dramatic as a girl in HS. Maybe people just didn't like him in the org because he's a tool?

Also, we might win in 22 if the dude was worse at going left that zoolander.

Thats because you?re thinking too reasonably! I will put on my conspiracy theorist hat and tell you why people are mad:

1. Tatum has always been jealous of Brown because JB won FMVP and hes been wanting him gone ever since
2. Tatum was jealous of JBs success last season and he wanted him gone because he wanted Boston to be his team
3. Tatum signed off on the deal. Theres no way management would pull the trigger without Tatums blessing. Theres no other reason for management to trade Brown if it wasn?t for Tatum going to them and saying he wanted Brown out
4. Tatum didnt fight management and insist on keeping JB. Tatum should have said ?if he goes, then I go? or something to that effect
5. Tatum is lying about saying he knew when the world knew. He is lying that he didnt orchestrate or have a hand in having Brown traded. He knew before the trade was announced because he was pulling the strings with management
6. When Tatum was told about the trade, his first question was ?where?, not ?why?. This is definitive proof that Tatum was behind this whole trade.
7. JB is clearly the better player. Management only wants to keep Tatum because hes easy to control. JB keeps it real and speaks his mind and a backwards organization like the Celtics cant handle a player like that being the face of their franchise

There, I think Ive covered all the typical talking points youll find online and in socials  :P
