this is horrible.
red sox owners not to pay up if they want to get players, i know its an insane deal but that is the reality of baseball today.
last year they lost their best player. and now they lose in signing burnett and Teixiera .

were gona get killed next yr, is there any body good left on the market, what a horrible offseason by the sox management.

I've said it before, there's a solid chance that the third best team in MLB doesn't make the playoffs next season. If that team happens to be the Yankees, they'll probably change the divisional structure of the league after '09. :P

Just like the mike mussina incident i see the redsox doing something to get someone via trade or just to get their spending hunger quenched.

I think it could be a decent move to try to sign pat burrell on a 3 year 35-40 million dollar contract

The guys average is less than impressive but he makes it up  with 30 plus home runs and has had a high obp for most of his career.

Not saying we really have to do anything like this, but i rather have 4 quality outfielders than 3 starting infielders fighting for 2 positions. With burrell also this provides safety in case ellsbury struggles again or bay was to be traded in the offseason.

I dont think the Sox do anything drastic.  They arent signing a corner OF (Manny-which is just silly, burrel, etc... because they have their corners set).

I think we will see quiet from here on out for the sox...maybe another pitcher and some sort of catcher.

Yes, a reactionary panic move. That's what we need! Burrell is barely qualified to play left. I suppose you want Drew in center, Bay in right, and Burrell in left?

Don't be shocked also to pretty much infuriate the sox boras and yankees are now working on signing tek to a 3 year deal at 30 million.

Paying 20 million dollars for the redsox pitching secrets is nothing

Yeah, I agree.  This isn't the old regime.   They wont panic.

Burrell would be just stupid and has panic move written all over it.

What?  are you trying to say they would pay Tek?  There is a greater chance they sign me then him.  I dont really know what you are saying.

Pretty crazy that the yankee's have the 4 highest paid players in the league.

What would the Yankees possibly do with Jason Varitek?

What Red Sox management cannot and I believe will not do is react instinctively to this. Fans, although I know it's hard, should try and do the same thing.

I must say though that this makes me wish we still had Manny, or that we were somehow able to re-sign him. I know it's irrational and will never happen, but those are just my raw emotions speaking. Wait, didn't I just say not react this way?

I think the lack of signing Teixeira is going to snowball into a bad offseason...

No Teixeira, which means Varitek is more than likely gone, which means we're beyond screwed at catcher.

So guys listen i never said for them to do it. But its an option. Yeah he can't hit alot or cover the outfield like many elites(though fenway GM will make it easier on him) but remember he is a world champion and played a big part.

Other than him and maybe milton bradley there is nothing left in the FA market this year worthwhile. (adam dunn is not a redsox player type even if he can 100 home runs)

jack all the pitching secrets out of tek. Pros and cons of all the hitters on the redsox team.

Tek in all other situations wouldn't leave the redsox to the yanks(and mess up the history he was involved in ending the curse) but he is divorced, prob has to pay alimoni and needs cash

Paying 20 million dollars for the redsox pitching secrets is a terrible idea

Fixed. I usually don't care for snarky posts like mine here, but I couldn't resist. triboy, if Tek could draw 30 mil from the Yanks, why hasn't anybody else around the league even made him an offer so far?

Also, does anybody understand what's going to happen with the comp picks owed Milwaukie, Toronto, and now LAA? If in some alternate universe the Yanks did sign Tek, what would get in compensation?
