Pending trade announcement:

Edited out of respect for wdleehi's wishes to make announcements himself.  :)

But I will say that the Bobcats are listening to offers for a "top 11" pick and are looking at options of trading down into the mid to late 1st round.  If anyone has interest in a *cough*... Top 11 pick  *cough*...   The Bobcats might be the right team to speak to.  :)

Charlotte, NC --   Big news is starting to leak out of Charlotte on two pending trades that have been sent to the league offices for approval and are expected to be officially announced by league commissioner, wdleehi, in the coming hours.

Reportedly, the Bobcats have sent their two 2nd round picks to the Toronto Raptors in return for their 1st and 4th round picks.  The trade shakes out like this:

Raptors trade:  1st round pick (#11) and 4th round pick (#20)
Bobcats trade:  2nd round pick (#7) and 2nd round pick (#18)

Insider sources are confirming that the Bobcats will use the acquired 4th round pick (#20) that they receive in the Toronto trade as part of a large move with Portland to move up in the first round.  The details of that 2nd pending deal are as follows:

Portland trades:
1st round (#8)  4th round (#23) , 8th round (#23)
Bobcats trade: 1st round (#13), 4th round (#20), 6th round (#18), 8th round (#18)

These two blockbusters will reportedly leave the Bobcats with the #8 and #11 pick in the upcoming draft... although leaving them without a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Speculation persists that the Bobcats do not intend on keeping the 11th pick and are actively looking at moving down into the mid to late 1st round.

When asked for comment, neither general manager LarBrd33 or interim head coach Justin Timberlake cared to elaborate.

UPDATE:  The above is now officially approved by the league.

The Detroit Pistons are happy to announce that they have acquired the 12th pick in the draft. But GM Celtic Fan Forever says they will not stop there, "We want a top tier superstar," he said, "we're looking to move up to the 5-10 range." While reluctantly parting with their 2nd rounder, the Pistons still have 2 3rd round picks, which could also be available. "Nothing is off-limits at this point," said CFF, "we're still deciding where to go from here."

When news broke in Brooklyn that the Nets had traded away their #5 pick, fans were outraged. "We wanted Garnett" some fans shouted.  Others thought the team would have been able to draft Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant despite contrary reports from teams drafting ahead of the Nets.

"We liked the players we thought would be available to us at #5," Nets GM Sideshow Raheem told reporters after the trade was announced Thursday, "But when the Bulls called us and made their offer, we just thought it was too good to pass up.  Look, I know fans wanted a superstar, but my job is to build the best team, and with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds we're confident we can put together a team that will be able to compete with anyone in the league."  Does this mean the team is done dealing one reporter asked, Sideshow Raheem replied with a smile, "The trade definitely brought a lot of flexibility to the team, we're happy to stand pat, but as we just showed with this trade if the right deal presents itself we won't hesitate to make a move."

The Nets coaching staff of Sideshow Bob, Sideshow Mel, and Sideshow Luke Perry were stopped outside the teams practice facility and asked what they thought of the trade, Head coach Sideshow Bob side-stepped the question saying, "It's not our job to make trades, it's our job to coach whoever Sideshow Raheem brings in."

I have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, so I am open to other moves, but as you can see by the photos of my front office/coaching staff, we're taking this thing seriously.

TEHRAN--AP - For a moment the Tehran Lakers thought about pulling their first overall pick off of the table, but reports are that with the frenzy of trading going on around the league, they've since reconsidered.

When reached by the press, the apparently very candid owner Robb replied "We've yet to make any announcement on who we're drafting or that we're keeping the pick, so if you've heard otherwise, that's probably just 'GM-speak,' we've always been interested to hear proposals for the pick.  It just so happens that right now there are teams that are gathering multiple first and second round picks and that seems a reasonable enough price for being able to draft the player with the most value in the league."

When asked which player the franchise viewed as having "the most value in the league," owner cordobes answered, "well value is dictated by the market, and we're not really looking at any specific players.  Any NBA fan will be able to make a list, maybe 10, 15 deep that are viable franchise players, we obviously do feel like there are certain tiers to that as far as what positions are most effective and what skills are most useful when starting a franchise, but as of right now we're still deliberating on who we're looking to pick...if we're picking at all, that is."

Winnipeg-AP- Clippers GM Rebus Rankin responded today to speculation that his team was looking to move out of the 7th overall spot in the first round. Rankin was quoted as saying that he had received several offers that he was mulling over but hadn't received any proposals that blew him away yet.

Portland has expressed preliminary interest in moving down out of the #13 spot, and is mulling multiple offers.  It is expected that they will listen to deals up until Monday's draft.

Maybe it should be a league-wide goal to trade every pick at least once?

Pistons Trade: 1st (12) 3rd (12) 3rd (22) 5th (22) 8th (9) and 9th (22)
Celtics Trade: 1st (10), 2nd (21), 5th (10), 6th (21), and 9th (10)

The Pistons and Celtics are doing their part.
