I am not clear on the hard capped stuff in the new CBA. So MIA cannot add any extra salary beyond the first apron?

I wonder how much wiggle room they have below the first apron. They still need to improve that bench.

Correct, because they are using a TPE from a prior season to complete this deal, they are a first-apron team.

My quick math has them about $15 million under the first apron with only 10 players signed.  They are going to have to move some real salary if they want to keep Norm Powell.

Do they even have any desirable salary to get off of? They just gave away all of their picks. If Miami doesn?t keep Powell, then that will be a major fumble by them.

Agreed. They need Norm Powell. They have no perimeter scorer without him. They will go nowhere with just Bam & Giannis.

I hope they bring back Simone Fontecchio as well. I thought he played well for them. More a pure shooter. I think he would do very well alongside Giannis. Pelle Larsson more of an all-rounder than a shooter. Fontecchio would be better for them.

Biggest winners are NOP and Portland who can swap or use Bucks first pick over the next few years. Bucks are going to be awful.

Those Bucks' picks are probably less valuable now.  Milwaukee has a good shot of being a bottom-three team over the next few years, which would only give them two ping-pong balls for the lottery, as opposed to three.

That's actually a funny theory. The Bucks took the Heat package so they could be really bad and stick it to Portland and Atlanta and give them worse draft odds. Despite the sudden revisionist history on how good the Heat package actually is, there's really not a lot of other good reasons for MIL to have taken their offer over the Celtics.

I hope you folks are right. I don't see anything worth trading Brown for now that Giannis is off the table. I guess the good part is that Brown is under contract for 3 more seasons. He doesn't have the threat to walk for nothing.

Maybe he takes yet another step to get better.

I don't think trading him away for 75 cents on the dollar is the right move at this point.

Goodness Miami paid alot. The unprotected firsts when Giannis is 35 and 37 could be pretty good.

That is cool. I did not know MIL were his home team.

The bright side:  we don't have to watch Giannis hoisting 10+ threes per game in Joe's offense.  That's a win.

Why are people acting like the Heat deal was so enormous? It was literally the rumored package plus Jakuckonis.

What Milwaukee was asking for from us was enormous, but that?s mostly because they apparently valued Jaylen and Herro very similarly.

That is my biggest concern moving forward. If we do keep Jaylen, we absolutely cannot give him that extension. He is already overpaid and that will be compounded by making him a $70M/yr player.

Looks like last year really was a waste. Winning 56 games, getting #27 in the draft, and losing in the 1st round. At least if we were able to sell high on Jaylen and buy low on Giannis, it would have all been worth it.

Agree. This team feels totally handcuffed now. They are being forced to pretty much run it back after overachieving last season with a roster that just is not very good with a terrible play style and a coach that doesn't seem to know what to do.

This team has so many holes and so little assets to fix them that it just doesn't feel like Brad can fill them with quality.

A roster that without Tatum isn't very good and overachieved.

A roster with Tatum is very good and a 55-60 win season would not be overachieving.

$73 million incoming, $47.5 outgoing = $25.5 million net incoming

Spotrac had them at $41 million below the first apron prior to the deal, so yeah, right around $15 million left to add four players.  If they want to keep Powell, they're presumably going to have to find a taker for Jovic.

The problem is the playoffs. Two straight flameouts. I know Tatum wasn?t available for G7, but still. After the previous season not being able to hold a lead against the Knicks, we are not getting closer to a championship.

Regular season fluff aside, we need to do something different. I don?t want to become the Cavs or Pistons. The 27th pick won?t do it. Baylor, Walsh, Hugo aren?t taking major steps to be difference-makers.

We know what Tatum/Brown/White/Pritchard/Queta are.

The problem is, even with Tatum the team has underachieved in the playoffs 3 of the past 4 seasons.

If Joe had been able to use Vuc effectively I'd actually feel pretty good right now, because we'd have our center rotation in place (as Vuc would come back), and we'd have the MLE to add an effective scorer like Simons, Sexton or even Powell. 

But, because of the failure to properly use Vucevic, we need to find a competent center, meaning it's less likely we can add to the team elsewhere.
