Welp, this is disappointing.

But the Miami offer was better for the Bucks, I?ll concede. I honestly thought the Heat overpaid. Herro is whatever but getting 2 cost controlled decent young players + 4 picks (3+swap right?) is pretty amazing. We got 3 picks including swaps for Pierce and KG and everyone talked about what a steal that was.

Disagree. If Milwaukee was smart, they would've taken Brown and flip him to SA. They have a ton of picks and would probably give those and Fox up. A vet in his prime on that team makes them scary good.
While the Bucks did get a haul, those picks are several years down the road and this rebuild is going to be drawn out longer than necessary.

I'd go as far to say that this is a borderline disaster for the Bucks. Sure, they are getting the Miami picks in 2031 and 2033, but what about the next 5 years? They don't control their picks until 2031 and they have no headline player (young or old) to lead their team. They are going to be a bottom feeder for the next several years with absolutely nothing to show for it in terms of draft picks.

I can't believe they weren't interested in a 3-way deal with Portland for Sharpe and their picks back. Just knowing you can look forward to 2028, rather than 2031, gives fans something to look forward to. Are they really going to plaster Tyler Herro's face on billboards around Milwaukee? Are they going to be stuck paying him a Trae Young-like deal because he puts up big stats on a terrible team? If I'm a Bucks fan, I am distraught.

If we do trade Jaylen, it'll be really interesting to see what we get. The Bucks would have been able to get that package plus 2 1sts from us. Will it end up better than the Heat package? I'd imagine so, unless Jaylen really isn't valued around the league.

A few things. One is that Tyler Herro is a hometown boy. Idk what impact that will have but at least it?s something. Secondly, Herro is an expiring and not signing him gives them flexibility.

Getting JB under 3yrs gives them a year with his services, and then next year, they might relive this whole saga again if he refuses to resign. This is something the Bucks owner has said as to why they ultimately went another way. I don?t know why they werent doing a 3-team. But I?d be surprised if none of these were explored and nothing was emerging.

If I was a Bucks fan, I already know that we?re in a disaster post-Lillard trade. Getting C?s picks with a Giannis-Tatum pairing would be in the 25-30 range. Thats two picks at ~26 plus a rental for JB. Thats good but not great. JB is the real prize of the deal and if you can?t even secure that, then you traded away Giannis for nothing.

If I'm the Bucks I take Boston's deal, and immediately call SA. The problem for the Bucks is not so much the return they got for Giannis from Miami, it's they added years to their rebuild. I think SA would be interested in this deal.

We can only speculate. Maybe the Bucks did try to find a 3rd team (incl SA) and the Spurs just weren?t interested in shaking up their roster to accommodate a max contract like Brown. Especially since they?re probably excited about their own cost-controlled core which just made it to the Finals and is developing way ahead of schedule.

Valid point. I don't think this deal would have to include anyone like Harper etc, but SA has a ton of picks these next few years, and the Bucks could've taken some of those and maybe Fox off their hands. Part of me is thankful this didn't happen though because that roster adding JB would be a powerhouse.

But you could be right and SA said no thanks.

If not SA, I still have a hard time believing Milwaukee couldn't have flipped JB for a better deal all around(Faster rebuild, and better players). This is why something feels off to me. I suspect Giannis wanted to go to Miami only and Boston was played unwittingly to drive up the offer. If Giannis really wanted to go compete, he's not choosing Bam over JT. The team is already set for him, unlike Miami where they have to construct a new roster while not having much flexibility. I remember his comments after losing to Miami where he said "There's no failure in losing" or something close to that.
