Anybody else old enough to remember the Tatum v. Kuzma debates?  ;)

The Middleton->Kuzma trade feels very much like an "end of life" contender trade. The kind of trade a team that once was a contender makes when they are desperately trying to hold on just a little longer, squeeze just a little more out of their run.

Middleton's bets case is clearly better than Kuzma's bets case, but it was becoming obvious they were never gonna get Middleton's case again. Kuzma is at least an inning's eater, somebody who can give you competent play and take some stress off an aging roster. He's also been a fairly decent defensive wing in the past. So its not a terrible swap, its just something that's unlikely to move the needle.

The end result is going to be a rebuild, they are moving closer to that conclusion.

As an aside...  What's up with CelticsBlog?  Nobody has updated the front page with the Springer news, and there are 20 combined comments on their four most recent articles.

It used to be that the trade deadline drove a ton of traffic.  Our little forum on life support seems to be doing better than SB Nation's blog that was too good for us. /bitter.

Haha.  I bite mine most of the time, but on certain occasions the vitriol comes through.  SBN is just one more reminder that businesses should be shaped to their markets, rather than forcing cookie cutter solutions on everyone.

But, what do I know?

I would be very surprised.  Shocked.

We could see a big trade in the summer, but I don't think it will happy at the deadline.

If the plan is to move a big salary to save a bunch of money then I'd think there's be less of a reason to salary dump Springer. The fact they salary dumped Springer indicates to me that its probably going to be a pretty quite deadline.

I would also be shocked if one of the top 9 guys is traded. That's an offseason type move.

Holiday probably, but we have zero reliable bigs if either Horford or Porzingis is moved mid season.

I would be very surprised if they traded any of the core at the deadline, but a lot less surprised if they traded say Holiday in the off season.  I don't think a trade of Holiday would be a salary dump per se, I think they would try to get something back that balanced the roster better, like when we traded Smart for Porzingis.

If the goal is to win a title, the best shot is to run this team that they have this season.  I cannot see any realistic trade that is going to make the core 8 or 9 any better.

I will say one thought that did pop into my mind is trading Kornet.  I know he plays a role but is not critical to a playoff run.  I can imagine him helping a team like the Lakers or Houston (not that we want to be helping those teams).  Kornet for a draft pick and then that draft pick plus another for Kessler?  I know it is not likely.

If I had to make a prediction, Brad will trade Tillman + future 2nds for Theis or Javonte Green. I'd lean more towards the latter (Green)

My dream target is Kessler. Maybe Ainge does us a favor

Out of my purely irrational fanhood of the guy, give me Vanilla Theis back.
