And sources tell The Inquirer that the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors have expressed interest in acquiring George ahead of Thursday?s 3 p.m. trade deadline.

Why would anybody want him on that contract?

Paul George could be fun in that Golden State Warriors offense. Lots of movement. Quick threes. He can be a big SF to a small ball PF when they want to adjust matchup wise.

Worthwhile risk is the price is low.

I don't know.  Paul George has the 6th highest contract in the NBA this season (tied), and he's got another three years left.  Between durability and declining production, I think he's too big of a risk to take.  For instance, to make the financials work, a feasible deal is Wiggins + Payton + Anderson.

Assume no draft picks.  Who wins that deal?

Wiggins, Payton, and Anderson does not work on Fanspo trade machine.  So I don't know.  For deal like that or something similar, I would expect that PHI would need to send pick to GSW for them taking back George's negative value contract.  I agree with what most are saying, I don't see George helping a team.  He is just a bad contract at this point.

Yeah, the ESPN trade machine says it works, but I didn't do the math myself.

Could Giannis and Kuzma even share the court at the same time?  It would seem a strange fit.

My maybe trade that works in Fanspo trade machine. Springer to the Sixers and we get Eric Gordon and Ricky Council IV.

This trade results in BOS taking back more ($5.1M) than they send out ($4.0M) but Fanspo is saying it works due to the "MSE" (minimum salary exemption) that appears to be applied to Gordon's salary.   This is a new one to me (there is always some nuance that I don't know).  In any case, I don't see PHI doing this unless we were to send some kind of draft compensation.

Minimum Salary Exception
The contract may not contain a signing bonus. This exception also allows minimum-salary players to be acquired via trade. There is no limit to the number of players that can be signed or acquired using this exception.

OKC had like 6 2nd rounders in 2029, I imagine they are just trying to even them out a bit by pushing one to 2030.

Apparently Grimes wanted more money from Dallas than they were willing to pay him, so getting Martin who is a solid wing 3+D guy and under team control for two more years after this one makes some sense.

I wonder if Philly starts Quentin Grimes at SG. Shift Oubre to SF.

G: T Maxey, K Lowry
G: Q Grimes, E Gordon
F: K Oubre, KJ Martin
F: P George, Yabusele
C: Embiid, Drummond

Nice boost in quickness and athleticism on the perimeter. Embiid would be the only guy with subpar quickness relative to his position in that starting unit.

Dallas' bench is impressive

G: Dinwiddie
G: J Hardy, Max Christie
F: Caleb Martin
F: Naji Marshall
C: Dan Gafford, Dwight Powell

Starters

G: Kyrie
G: Klay
F: PJ Washington
F: Anthony Davis
C: D Lively

Dallas does now have an exceptionally deep team, maybe one of the deepest in the league.

Guards: Irving, Dinwiddie, Hardy,
Wings: Thompson, Washington, Marshall, Martin, Christie, Prosper
Bigs: Davis, Lively, Gafford

All these guys either can play right now, or are young and have potential to crack the rotation in the near future. Even Exum and Powell are pretty solid for deep bench/emergency guys. If Irving and Davis both stay healthy (BIG if) they will be pretty good.

Martin is probably an upgrade over Grimes, a little more size and muscle, but I don't see this moving the needle much.

DAL does have some decent depth which is great, but doesn't win you a title unless you have the top end talent, the big 3.  For DAL right now, that top end is Davis, Irving, and Thompson.  I am not sure that is enough, even if Davis can stay healthy.

It feels like they need one more offensive star. They do have the contracts to find that guy, they could package Thompson+Washington+Gafford together and get up to a star level salary while still having the supporting players like Marshall, Martin, Lively, Christie to put around a "big three."

I think the obvious target may be Jimmy butler. The Heat want to remain competitive and getting three solid veterans in return for Butler would do that. Jimmy is from the Texas, and with a 32 years old Irving and 31 year old Davis feels like they are in win now mode.

It's so stupid, but my first thought was "Good, I don't want to have to face Martin in the playoffs."

The "Dumbest Thing That Will Be Said About The Trade Deadline" award goes to Dennis Schroeder:

Quote
?It?s like modern slavery,? Schr?der said. ?It?s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you?re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ?You?re not coming to work tomorrow, you?re going over there,? they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.

I'm not sure that he has a good grasp on what actual slavery looked like.  I can assure you, it didn't involve collective bargaining and living in luxury while earning millions of dollars.

A big 3 of Davis, Irving, and an angry Butler does look a whole lot better than Davis, Irving, and Thompson.  I think Davis, Irving, and Butler could make a run at a championship for the next few seasons.  Wrap a decent supporting cast around that and you have something.  DAL could redeem themselves quite a bit if they were able to get Butler.  There is a risk that they end up like the current PHI, everyone injured, but if healthy, that is a very solid core.
