The backup center spot has been a bit thin for the Kings all season. Valanciunas is locked up for 2.5 seasons on an affordable contract and he figures to age with relative grace. His skill level and sheer physicality won't deteriorate much over time.

This is especially sweet because it has to sting for the Los Angeles Lakers, a division rival with precious few frontcourt options after trading Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic.

Valanciunas isn't the best fit for what ails LA, but he's a functional big man, which can't be said for anybody else on the Lakers roster. We know Los Angeles checked in on Valanciunas throughout the season, so this bargain qualifies as a double victory for Sacramento.

Good point regarding the Lakers.  No way they could match this deal, they would have had to send salary to WAS, but much rather see him go to SAC than LAL.

I feel like the Kings are looking around the NBA and asking "What players can we get that will give the most median team possible? What players have led other teams to be mediocre? How can we raise the floor as high as possible without the ceiling getting too high?"

Who is next? Bradley Beal? Pascal Siakim? Julius Randle? CJ McCullom?

On the other hand, what other viable route does Sacto have? Fox may very well not have re-signed with them. Marquee free agents don't want to go there. If they really want to compete, trading for several average/above-average players on reasonable contracts might be the best option for them.

Kings have a weak bench outside of Jonas

G - Monk, Keon Ellis
G - LaVine
F - K Murray, D McDermott
F - DeRozan, T Lyles
C - D Sabonis, J Valanciunas

Keon Ellis hasn't played much this year but he did give them good minutes last year. Good opportunity for him post-trade to show his talent. Doug McDermott is barely an NBA player at this point. Trey Lyles a below average bench player.

They got young Colby Jones. That draft pick SG from two years ago who has shown nothing so far. Plus Alex Len and a hustle undersized big in Isaac Jones.

Mad Dog on ESPN segment = "Enough of Kevin Durant"

* Bailed on OKC
* Bailed on GSW
* Went to BKN, got the head coach Kenny Atkinson fired who is now the coach of the #1 seed in the East
* Got swept by Boston in the 1st round
* Bailed on Brooklyn
* Got blasted in elimination game by Denver
* Got smashed by Minny in playoffs last season

Mad Dog is sick of Durant talk. Of trade rumours. Enough!

Don?t be surprise if Horford, Porzingus or Holliday is traded
I was just thinking maybe Holliday for Middleton? Because of contract length difference, the Celtics would have to add pick{s}. Washington certainly can't be interested in keeping Middleton.

Middleton is washed...
Holiday may also be washed but his contract is not up for 3 more seasons. Middleton is up after next year. Middleton is shooting 51 FG% and 41 3P%. He is averaging 12.6 points in 23 minutes.

Wiggins has 2 more years on his deal after this season. Why would Miami do that? Backwards step. Just keep Jimmy.

Bad trade for Miami. Great deal for GSW. Home run for GSW.

Edit: Kyle Anderson also has 2 and a half years left on his deal. Schroder is an expiring.

I don't see why Miami would want Schroder. T Herro has played the best basketball of his career this season and he has done it predominantly at the PG position. Then you have Terry Rozier too.

Who is better - Rozier or Schroder?

Rozier is a better shooter and scorer.
Schroder a better drive & playmaker.

So Miami's new look team would be

G: Schroder, T Rozier
G: T Herro, D Robinson, A Burks
F: A Wiggins, Highsmith, P Larsson
F: Bam, Jaquez, Slow Mo, Jovic
C: K Ware, K Love

Mmm ... .500 team?

Butler also extended for 2 years $121 million 🤮. Man, I just don?t see it. Does anyone really see this vaulting them to a true contender status and able to make it out of the rough West, let alone take on the C?s when meeting us in the Finals? That?s a lot of old, injury prone guys to rely on.

Must be nice having a super, super rich owner.

Golden State is a legit title contender with Jimmy.

G: Steph, G Payton II
G: Moody, Podz
F: Jimmy Butler, Buddy Hield, Lindy Waters
F: Draymond, Kuminga
C: Looney, T Jackson Davis

I would start Moody if I were Golden State. A good 3+D wing to play in between Steph and Jimmy. You have enough ball-handling and playmaking with Steph, Jimmy and Draymond. A simple 3+D wing would serve best. Let Podz be the main ball-handler in the 2nd unit.

Buddy Hield will be a big time scorer off the bench. Gary Payton II a defensive stopper in the backcourt. Lindy Waters a solid two way SF. Two serviceable bigs in Looney & TJD.

Draymond & Jimmy together on defense is going to be fun.

Edit: I forgot Kuminga! Another big piece!

It's a panic trade. Durant didn't want to go GSW and I don't think they had many realistic options. Butler is only marginally better than Wiggins and I'd argue this season alone Wiggins has been better (partially because he's available and engaged unlike Butler the last few months)

I still wonder what happens with KD now. That feels like the next domino

If you trade Jrue for Middleton then say goodbye to our championship aspirations. That would be a horrible deal and a potential locker room problem. If we really wanna trade Jrue, do it in the off season.
