New York will now hard capped at the $189.5M 2nd apron in 2024-25.

Not sure the Knicks can afford to lose hartenstein. I would let OG walk or trade Randle.

I read that they are actually hard capped at the first apron, which is $178.7M (that's what Keith Smith said anyway). This likely signals the end of Hartenstein and it's very close with OG. They really don't have a choice with OG, though, they have to offer him as much as they can. Losing him would be a disaster after this trade

As I understand it, the reason people are saying the Knicks will be hardcapped is because they're taking on more salary than they're sending out.  There seems to be a simple solution to that, though.

2024 salaries (if trade made before 7/1/24):  Bridges: $21,700,000; Bogs: $20,000,000
2025 salaries (if trade made after 7/1/24):  Bridges:  $23,300,000; Bogs: $19,032,850

It's only a $1.7 million gap before July 1.  Is it worth including Jericho Sims or Miles McBride in the trade so that NYK preserves cap flexibility?  That would theoretically allow them to keep both Hartenstein and OGA.

If and when something like this happens, you heard it here first. ;)

This Knicks trade reeks of desperation.

All those picks for a guy that is older and less accomplished (and skilled) than both Jaylen and Jayson.

Man, that's a heavy price for Bridges.  I like the guy but not THAT much.

Can they keep both OG and Hartenstein?  They'd better.
How much do people think Hartenstein is going to get?  He isn't that good.

Around $25mil per year.

Strong defender. Strong rebounder. Very good passer. Nice short shot going to the basket. Probably a top 15 center.

I love Mikal Bridges for NYK. He is the type of supporting star you want around a high usage franchise player like Jalen Brunson. Bridges and OG Anunoby will be a phenomenal defensive 1-2 punch either on the wings or at forward.

That's a good trade for the Knicks especially if they can keep OG.... They will be right behind us next season...

Knicks move really impact the Sixers, Heat, Bucks, Cavs, etc.

I just don't see them beating a full Cs team.
Maybe not, but I think we need to keep in mind two things:

1) Repeating is difficult - we haven't even made back-to-back Finals appearances with this core yet.
2) The Knicks now are more likely to make it further in the playoffs than they were a couple of days ago. That matters a lot, particularly to a long-suffering fanbase. Remember how much fun '01-'02 was?

I don't know why folks are sleeping so much on the Knicks. They won 50 games last year. Their 2nd best player only played half the season. Their 3rd best player only played half the season. Their 3rd best big only played one third of the season.

They are going to be much better next season. Even before they got Mikal Bridges. They should be a high 50s low 60s win team.

Is Bridges 4 1st round picks better than White? I feel like they are similar players, with Bridges having a bit more, and Celtic fans felt we overpaid for White.

I think the Knicks look really good as a team depending on what happens here, but they also might be overrating themselves a bit. 6 foot primary offensive creators are not usually able to sustain the level of effectiveness Brunson had this last year. Plus, a big part of who they were is their rim protection, and if Hartenstein is gone now, that will hurt them significantly.

I get why they made the trade. There's no doubt this team has great vibes and a really good rotation of players. But they emptied the cupboard for a non all-star. That typically doesn't lead to good results.

No one is sleeping on them. They should be the second best team in the East.

But their bench is weak, they lack any size with Hartenstein most likely leaving. Mitchell Robinson is made of glass.

They cannot afford to run their guys into the ground like they usually do.

Wouldn't aggregating salaries in a trade have the exact same hard-capping effect?

It seems like the Knicks will have to pick between Robinson and Hartenstein, which should be interesting. I have to think they would go with Hartenstein (assuming they can agree on a contract) and trade Robinson for a cheaper big man
I'm bitter.

That's key. Thibs will get Mikal injured for the first time in his NBA career lol. Heard he hasn't missed a game yet

I'm not sure if it counts as aggregating salaries under the CBA, since the salaries don't need to be combined to make the trade math work.  Possibly, but not necessarily.

A record will fall in 2024-25 for sure: most minutes played by players from the same college in the same NBA team in a season.

The Villanova Knicks came close to beating it in 2023-24 and that was before the Mikal Bridges trade.

Waltah, Antoine, Mercer...  I wish the Celts had stayed away from Pitino, though.
