21 games left. Time to be making sure that bodies are right for the playoffs.  Get those knees ready.

Looks like a project player. I clicked on his ESPN profile and it doesn?t look like he?s ever played in an NBA game.

6?7/220lbs, 37% from deep. Definitely a Brad Stevens type player. Will be interesting to see how he looks in Maine.

It was interesting, i remember thinking in the 4th quarter that all his in between shots were hitting the front rim.

If the knee is bothering him then he should take a few games off. I really don't think its matters all that much what seed the Celtics are, they aren't catching Cleveland and the farthest they are going to fall is 3rd and I'm very confident they can beet the Knicks without homecourt.

Good news is the Celtics have the 2nd easiest remaining SOS by opponent win percentage. Of their remaining 21 games only five are against teams above .500. So even if they start resting guys they can probably keep winning.

From the start of the season to January 19th Jaylen Brown played 35 games and had a TS% of 54.4%. Since January 19th he's played 16 games and has a TS% of 58.6%. So after a pretty rough first half efficiency wise he's been pretty much back to long term average the last quarter of the season. That's a good example of regression to the mean.

Another note: Tatum last missed a game on December 23. He's played 32 consecutive games. From the start of the seaosn through December 23 Tatum had a TS% of 60.6%. Since December 23 in his 32 game played streak he's had a TS% of 56.7%. His desire to play ever night is admirable, but he could probably use a few days off down the stretch here.

People can hate him or call him "corny", but what this man is doing is legendary stuff. There's so many records and milestones that Lebron has hit in his career that people didn't think others could reach, and yet Tatum has (or he's come close which is still way better than most others can say).

And there's a bunch of other stats and categories where Tatum is on a same list with only about 5-6 other players, usually other legends like Lebron, Wilt, Jordan, etc.

Both the 76ers and the Lakers passed on Brown and Tatum in back to back drafts.

The 4 guys taken ahead of them:

Ben Simmons- Started strong but regressed to being a bench player after a few injuries. On his second team.
Brandon Ingram- Now on his third team. Solid starter type but tough fit on a good team.
Markelle Fultz- On his third team, hadn't even played most of this year.
Lonzo Ball- On his third team, injuries have derailed his career but solid rotation guy when healthy.

But to be clear, Boston never officially named Brown a captain, which he later clarified at 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. It?s understood, he said, that he assumes that role because he?s been on the team the longest. ?Even though we don?t necessarily have it written down, the team moves to the things that me and Jayson [Tatum] do,? Brown said. ?Even though we have a lot of great players, I feel like my team relies on me to be the leader, the vocal leader. I would say I?ve taken that role and defensively, being the head of the snake, taking on those matchups. My team feeds off that. It?s kind of understood, I guess.?

Brown later identified Smart leaving in 2023 as the turning point in him embracing a leadership role. Brown now views his and Tatum?s past approaches as too quiet. Someone needs to talk, Brown learned after multiple playoff runs with his costar, and since that style didn?t come naturally to either star, Brown made a conscious choice to embrace it. ?Jayson?s more of a lead-by-example [type], he doesn?t really talk a lot,? Brown said. ?He?s opened his mouth a lot more than he has in the past, but Jayson, I wouldn?t say, is extremely vocal, and I haven?t been either, but that?s something I think I?m more comfortable with. I speak a lot on different platforms, so I?ve been able to carry that more a little bit, trying to just keep our morale, speaking life into everybody, talking to everybody on the bench, keeping that good feng shui.? ? via The Ringer

This sort of confirms the theory that trading Marcus resulted in the Jays taking more of a leadership role.

Yeah, and it also allowed for White to gain more of a role in the 4th where he's proven to be clutch often not just with hustle plays but also making shots. Jrue seems perfectly fine being the 4th or 5th option on the team, I don't think Smart did. Smart was also on that SI poster I think with Jaylen and Tatum, where it seemed a little weird but it sounded like the Jays were like "okay lets just appease Marcus and let him think he's part of a Big 3".

I still love Smart, don't get me wrong. But we probably had to make the move to get Banner 18, similar to how the Red Sox traded Nomar and then won in 2004.

Tatum and especially Jaylen definitely seemed to become better, more vocal leaders after the Smart trade too. I remember instances where Smart would just completely ignore Mazzulla and check himself into a game or something. I know we have a "Joe Mazzulla criticism" thread here but sorry, I didn't like seeing stuff like that when Smart didn't really back it up in 2023 either. It'd be one thing if this was the same 2022 DPOY-level guy

And then from out of nowhere the Lakers are gifted with Luka Doncic. Ugh.
