Very surprised that Marion went before Stoudemire. I get the reasoning that Amare is a bit harder to fit on a team than Marion, but still.
As freakishly athletic and dominant offensively as Amare was, he was not good at defence, despite having all the tools. His "I was never taught defence" quote always looms large to me.
Amazing offensive player, and athletic enough to hide alongside good defenders, but I see the reasoning for Marion before him.
I think the injury in year 4 really robbed Amar'e of a spot on the top 75 team. He was still really good after that, but wasn't quite the same level of athlete. I'm still trying to decide what season to use, but I think I'm leaning towards that 3rd year before the injury. He was basically unguardable that year. He was faster or stronger than everyone he played and often both of those things. In this, I think only a couple of guys can even attempt to guard him. I thought he was a clear 1st round pick in this. Couldn't pass him up even though I took Pau in round 1.
