Another fringe-roster dumpster dice. Woot!
I think you are being a bit harsh. He has played 252 NBA games, 55 starts, at age 26. Career 36% from 3 on 921 attempts, about 42% last season over 99 attempts. I don't know what you expect for the bottom third of the roster. He is replacing Champagnie (who really was a fringe-roster player). Isn't that a major upgrade? He appears to me to be good enough to be a useful emergency fill-in, maybe even a little better than that. I would have preferred an established PF but as the Rolling Stones have immortalized, "you can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need".
And we do still have an open roster spot, Banton is barely guaranteed (up to opening night), and a TPE.
Yeah Svi is obviously better than Champagnie, but to follow the metaphor of Stones song though, he's not what we need. IMO we need another front court player and Svi is definitely not that. In addition, we have too many backup wings now: Svi, Hauser, Brissett, Walsh.
I don't disagree, we do need a natural PF for the bench for the 2nd unit, and Svi isn't that. He is a really nice piece for the 3rd unit though (deeper bench) and I think will prove useful. At 26, he also still has some ceiling. He is much better than fringe dumpster or whatever Roy called him. He has been a half decent NBA bench player, a journeyman for sure, but he is an NBA player.
3rd Unit:
Banton
Svi
Walsh
.....?
Kornet
If we could get a natural PF for the 2nd unit, Brissett would bump down and be the last piece for the 3rd unit. I think that is a fine 3rd unit. A good mix of reliable known players (Kornet, Svi) and prospects (Banton, Walsh). And if Brissett bumps down to the 3rd unit, even better.
