Shams is reporting via Twitter:

Free agent Svi Mykhailiuk has agreed to a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics, sources tell
@TheAthletic @Stadium.

Seems a bit redundant to Hauser but seems like a good depth piece.  There was an earlier thread with a U-Tube highlights video.  I see a player who moves really well off the ball, always in motion coming through the lane and off screens, and yes, can shoot well.  Been with 6 teams already, but only 26.  Probably will not be one of the top 10 on the roster, but seems like a reasonably reliable bench player with some ceiling.

Really like this signing for a deep bench guy. Svi imo is tougher than Hauser, moves better without the ball, and is a better defender.

Aren't his 3-point % better than Hauser as well ?

Not really. He was marginally better on way fewer attempts last year (42.4% on 99 3PA vs 41.8% on 335 attempts). Sci's second best year was 40.4% on 285 3PA, but his other 3 seasons were sub-40%. He has a lot more NBA experience than Hauser and it looks like he's less one-dimensional on offense, but Hauser definitely looks like the better shooter.

And ultimately, for a deep bench role being good/great at shooting is more valuable.
I'm bitter.

The Hauser-Svi debate is kinda funny. Is either of them really gonna do a whole heck of a lot next season?
Hauser played 80 games for 16MPG last season

I think there's no reason to debate Hauser vs Svi. Joe wants shooters, it's his offensive philosophy, and Brad is giving it to him with Hauser, Svi, and even Porzingis. I expect to see all three of them bombing away all season.

Outside of KP, I worry that the new additions are all pretty unreliable.  Brissett, Banton and Svi haven't shown a lot of consistency, particularly with their shooting.

I hear you about Brissett and Banton. I wouldn't be surprised if those two don't see the floor much, particularly Banton.

Svi, Hauser and Porzingis are established shooters though. Those three with Tatum, Brown, White, Horford, Brogdon and Pritchard give Joe a lot of shooters for his 3 point offense. Rob has been working on his 3 point shot this summer too, but I don't expect much on that front.

Last year he had a good shooting year, on low volume.  In 2022 and 2021 he was poor.  In 2020 he was good.  In 2019, bad.

So, five seasons, and he's shot well in two of them.  I think he's a question mark.

Bench still needs a playable big for when Rob and KP get hurt and Al gets his rest.

As for the "wings"...Hauser needs to take another step this year. Banton is never going to play. Brissett is going to be a hustle guy and any scoring they get out of him will be a bonus. Svi is another shooter.

Joe is going to have this team shooting 100 3s a game.

I think you have to grade these guys on a curve.  Svi in my mind is established for what he is, a decent bench guy.  Even with his unevenness season to season, he still is a career 36% 3PT shooter.  That is pretty good for your 11th or 12th guy.  He has 252 NBA games including 55 starts as the basis for establishing that he is a decent bench guy.

If you are comparing him to all NBA shooters, no, he has not established himself as an upper end shooter.  But if you compare him to all bench players in the NBA, he would grade a lot better.  And I don't think it is recency bias to look at last season and say that he shot 42.4% from 3 in 32 games and conclude that this is what he is capable of, if placed in the right situation.

He is going to be 3rd string on the Celtics, bottom third of the roster.  Relative to that population, he is pretty good based on his history.  And he has some ceiling to get better.  What more can you expect out of this level of player?  He isn't going to play much, probably, unless there are injuries (plural).  But if it comes to that, I think he will hold his own in the rotation.

I’m pretty excited to see how things play out. The roster is interesting - lots of 6’7” bench wings - none going into the season with any assurance of PT - all of them trying to prove their value, setting up their next contract.  I think it’s great for competition.

Can’t wait to see DW looking like DJ, and the Jays getting more space to operate. How KP fits will be another big point of interest.

Not feeling negative at all.  Can’t wait for training camp.

I think Hauser can.  He's been a 40% shooter from 3PT in every stop dating back to his junior year in high school.

I guess there's always the potential to be a big help. It's just that this debate reminds me of when people here debate Summer League guys who end up doing little, if anything—Hauser and Svi are obviously better than SL guys, but I don't think they're critical to Boston's title chances. This team's fortunes basically hinge on Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis—in particular, on whether they can stay healthy.

Health, however, is a HUGE "if" for this team. Boston has multiple fragile players, plus old man Al will need a lot of rest, and basically every season since 2009 has been derailed by a significant injury. I have a hard time fathoming this season being any different.

Denver had a lot of injury years but just won the title. This is our year baby!

I know it's not Stevens style, but I have to wonder if the Celtics promised Svi some regular playing time to sign here. In addition to the offer in Greece with more money and a large role, the Heat were reportedly after him. He would have been a great Max Strus replacement for them.
