According to the Boston Globe, the Celtics are losing three assistants to Udoka.

Ben Sullivan, Aaron Miles & Mike Moser.

Interesting.  I guess those assistants know which coach has more of a long-term future.

Yeah, pretty frustrating. Don’t want to make any judgments without all the facts, but the fact that all three are going to follow him to Houston without reservation really brings up a lot of questions about the incident and whether we really did handle it appropriately or overreacted (or if who it involved just made it untenable for him to return). Understand the reasons for keeping things mum, but it makes it very hard for the public to understand this without the details.

Miles was a teammate of Udoka and Udoka knew Sullivan from Portland and recommended him to the Spurs and Bucks.  Sounds like that is much more about a longterm personal relationship than anything else.  Moser was hired last summer so maybe he too has a prior relationship with Udoka.

It's hard to know what Joe's relationship is with the departing assistants.  I know that Ben Sullivan receives a decent amount of credit, and I think it was Miles that was praised for speaking up during the Heat series.  But, who knows whether Joe would have kept them with or without the disappointment in the ECF.

I'm curious to see if Joe makes his own hires, or if the front office basically imposes some assistants on him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brad doesn't fill up all the assistant vacancies. It would totally be a Brad/Wyc thing.

I still don't think it is a bad thing,  losing those assistants, given how poorly we were prepared and uneven our play was this year.     This may help management make their decision on Joe.    Some guys I would consider are; I am l Frank Vogel,  Monty Williams but the Pistons are hiring him, Kenny Atkinson or Dave Joerger,

Because whatever he did, it didn't prevent him from getting hired somewhere else just 7 months later and being seriously considered in a few other destinations. Players also openly stated they loved Ime, and Smart in particular seemed to hate that he was let go.

Only thing I can think of is that whoever Ime ticked off (a C's executive), that executive went scorched earth within and demanded Brad/Wyc fire him. If they really did the "take the high road" thing, then they screwed the team when they were in an awesome spot.

Just my opinion, maybe controversial. but this sort of stuff probably happens a lot more frequently around the NBA. You don't think the Lakers with all the celebrities, all the athletes, etc. don't sleep around or get in a bunch of relationships?

Loosing those assistants will help in their honesty during exit interviews. Might make some tuff decisions easier for management.

Personally, I think the team was scared of all the Robert Sarver crap that went down and just grossly overreacted.

My opinion is that just because other teams/organizations do it doesn't mean that the Celtics should do it. The only thing that should matter is whether Ime contravened the organization's code of conduct, and if so then what was the penalty for that contravention. Nothing else matters to me. It's his fault for contravening the code of conduct, it's not Brad or Wyc's fault for coming down on him too hard. But I'm sure a lot of players think how you described, because to them what's the big deal? Having a coach they like is probably more important than some woman getting sexually harassed because they probably have done it all the time.

There's plenty of material on the internet that will tell you who it was and the fact that Ime was in a supervisory position to the person. By the way it wasn't the actual sleeping around that was the issue, it was the sexual harrassment that happened after. Plenty of CEOs have been fired for doing the same thing. That doesn't mean they can't ever work again - just that they can't ever work with the organization that they messed up with. It wouldn't be fair to the person that was sexually harassed. I don't think any championship is worth that but some hardcore fans may disagree.   

In any case it's all water under the bridge now. He's gone and everyone has to move on.

The answer is contract money, but it did seem a bit weird that they suspended him but didn't outright release him when it happened, but then they did after giving Mazzulla the official title. And hearing from reports, it sounds like they won't let go of Mazzulla for a handful of reasons, with one of them being... guaranteed money they don't want to waste. Just chaos lol

I suspect that they weren't 100% sure about Joe yet but his performance in the regular season convinced them. Then came the playoffs
