The whole Lakers/Pelicans pick swap scenarios turned out to be close to a dud.

If the lakers lose in the playin they can still win the lottery right? The lakers are going to be in the playin barring the biggest upset of the season tomorrow. I feel like people are getting confused with lakers and think they are already in the playoffs. They are not.

I'd say its more likely than not that the Lakers make the playoffs.  They've taken 2 of 3 from the Pels this season with the loss coming before the Westbrook trade.  They're also played well against OKC.  T-Wolves, not so much.

Theoretically they could win the lottery with a whopping 0.50% probability so I'm not holding my breath on that one.

They can't win the lottery because if they win they have to swap with the Pelicans.

We know that.  We're talking potential scenarios about the swap actually occurring.

Interesting times ahead for Dallas.

Doncic to Celtics make it happen!

Rockets, Thunder and Nuggets to me makes a lot of sense. Nuggets for a guaranteed winning situation alongside Jokic, but Rockets/Thunder have a ton of assets to potentially dangle and they also have enough to probably find a co-star (or draft one) next to Doncic

I think OKC with SGA, Doncic, Chet could legitimately contend for a title. They still have a boatload of picks and young players to surround them as well even after a potential Doncic deal

Grizzlies C Steven Adams out for the year with right knee injury. Sucks for him. But man, a more wide-open West.

Ugh, if the Lakers draw Memphis in the first-round it's gonna be a sweep for LeBron and AD

Feels like they will draw Memphis first round, unless LAC loses and LAL wins which means they play SAC first round. Crazy enough, I think SAC has a better chance at beating LAL than Memphis

Well I do hope they get a 6 vs 7 matchup in the West Semis. Battle of LA, where the Clippers have historically owned the Lakers. Home-court does not matter here. Clippers have the best shot in beating them, followed by Phoenix.  ;D

Still have to determine the West seedings tomorrow obviously, but that's my prediction. I think LAL wins first round, then loses 2nd round to the Clippers. Now I'm rooting for Sacramento to make a deep run (fun team, electric atmosphere), but I'd predict LAC beats SAC in the 1st round assuming that's the matchup (3 vs. 6). Then LAC beats LAL 2nd round

UPDATE: Actually I noticed, LAC has the same number of losses as GSW (just 1 less game played) but they also have the tiebreaker over the Warriors. In that case, if LAC wins out they will be the 5 seed. In that case, I'd still pick LAL to lose 2nd round over Golden State

Oh man I don't know if I buy GSW. They get clobbered on road games, and they aren't the GSW of 2017 either. But anything to give the Lakers a tough path I'm all for it.

It really seems like people are not paying attention to who the lakers have been beating. Their wins in the last month have been Utah (aggressively tanking), rockets, magic, thunder, bulls, twolves and Phoenix without Durant. What exactly is so impressive about this? The twolves win is kind of nice, but like how are they a contender after two years of .500 beating a bunch of mediocre or tanking teams? I’m really not getting it.

Would also be more interested in an actual point, I’m sure there is one, rather than “let’s arbitrarily throw out their first 12 games even tho Lebron and ad played to make the record look better.

I wondered if this would happen. I was thrilled cause I knew Dallas badly wanted to lose and was able to get bulls at +350 when it was clear Dallas was throwing game.

Just for fun and not having Tatum be the centerpiece, I think it would take something like this to get it done.

Doncic, Hardaway, Bertans

for

Brown, White, Rob, Pritchard, Gallinari, Muscala, 24 1st, 26 1st, 28 1st, swaps in 25 and 27

So post-trade Boston would be (re-signing Grant)

Starters - Smart, Doncic, Tatum, Grant, Horford
Bench - Brogdon, Hardaway, Bertans, Kornet, Champagnie
Open Spots - 5

That would be an interesting team.  Its success would depend on how well Doncic and Tatum could get along.  Given Doncic's ceiling, I'd probably do that, but it is a lot to give up and the team would need to do very well in free agency to make it fully work.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

I personally think Memphis’ frontcourt is thin and AD in particular will probably feast on them. JJJ is also basically a walking foul magnet so I’m not even sure if you can rely on him to be available all the time with foul trouble and such

Morant is a fantastic player and better than most of the Lakers guards/wings, but the Lebron-AD combo is probably going to outplay Memphis’ bigs and dominate them

Imagine if DAL loses their first round pick (or HAS to give it to NY regardless). But if this just ends up in a fine then that’s pointless
