Well, Philly gave them that game. They didn’t even bother playing tonight.

I don’t see why PHI would want to lose to MIA.  Right now, they would have BKN in the first round. Why help MIA change that.

I hope Joe is drawing up some plays to attack a zone defense.

Philly still plays the Nets on the last day of the regular season. If they want the Nets, they can just “lose” to them as BKN has the tiebreaker over Miami. For the conspiracy theorists out there, maybe they purposely lost to Miami tonight in order to help them secure #7, and possibly face the Celtics. Philly would love it if Miami knocks the Celtics out in the first round. Then again, Miami would still need to win the play in game so nothing is really set in stone.

I don’t follow this logic. The best chance to avoid MIA would have been to beat them. A MIA loss would have meant no chance for them to get the 6 seed.  With a MIA win, they have a chance to get the 6 seed. PHI will play the 6 seed.

Not 100% sure but I think BKN has the tiebreaker over MIA. The only way Miami can overtake BKN is to hope that BKN loses it’s last 2 games and MIA sweeps? BKN’s last game is vs Philly. If Philly wants them to stay at #6, they simply “lose” that final game to keep BKN at 37 losses (assuming they lose to Orlando the game before) .

Suns could be the team to beat in the West. 8-0 when Durant is playing.

Nice comeback win against a Denver team missing their 4-5 best players.

I used to have one of those in my clubhouse as a kid. Love those things, kinda surprised they haven't made a comeback in this age of retro/hipster culture

Yeah, losing to Miami made it more likely that Miami is the 7 seed instead of the 8 seed (which does make it more likely Miami wins that game and secures the 7 seed in the playoffs), but it does also make it more likely that they move up to 6 and I don't think anyone would rather play Miami over Brooklyn.

If MIA beat PHI, 6 seed is still a chance, 7 seed is likely, I think 8 seed is out or unlikely

If PHI beat MIA, 6 seed is out, 7 seed still likely, 8 seed possible.

If you accept that PHI is trying to "avoid" MIA, the 6 seed for MIA is the worst possible outcome.  If your theory is that PHI is trying to make sure that BOS gets MIA in the first round, (MIA the 7 seed), they it really doesn't matter if they win or lose this game.

And why would PHI care if MIA gets BOS or MIL in the first around (assuming they win in the play-in game).  I don't buy any of this.  And the only realistic one is that PHI preferred that BKN to get the 6 seed and beating MIA would have locked that in.  Yes, they can lose to BKN also but wouldn't it be better to just beat MIA and then beat BKN to "send a message"?  Why lose a game to your first round opponent and give them confidence?

I agree with you, I just think Philly had a bad game and wasn't intentionally doing anything.  I will say though, there is benefit in Boston playing Miami to Philly as Miami is the one team in that range that could win a couple of games against the Celtics and they are also BY FAR the most physical team in that range.  A match-up with Miami would make Boston's 1st round series harder which would then make Boston more tired and more beat up when they play Philly in round 2, at least potentially.

Embiid was meh yesterday and the Sixers got crushed.

Harden already looks like he's in playoff mode (not in a good way) and it sounds like the Achilles injury is still bothering him.

I still expect PHI to beat BKN in 5 or 6, but I don't see them beating MIL, BOS or even MIA in a series. PHI is probably lucky they avoid MIA first round assuming the Nets remain the 6 seed

This seems like big news:

Bucks star Khris Middleton underwent an MRI on his knee Thursday and he is expected to rehab for the next week or so in hopes of being ready for start of the playoffs, sources say

So Middleton may not be fully healthy the rest of the season. Local Bucks media is also saying he's been dealing with soreness for a bit now and it's lingering.

If BOS beats MIL in the ECF, I guess there'll be more "but what if Middleton was fully healthy" lol

I'm honestly surprised both James and Davis are playing in this game.  I figured they would both be out since this game doesn't really matter all that much if the Lakers win the last 2 (I think the Warriors will lose 1 and because the Lakers have the tiebreaker, they'd be the 6th seed) and because the Clippers are well rested and have been targeting this game.

Very confused why you think the warriors will lose one so confidently. They play the biggest tanking team In the league and a kings team with nothing to play for. Would be absolutely crazy for lakers to punt this game (especially after needing a comeback in overtime to win their game last night against the jazz).

Warriors are 10 point favorites tonight. Seems fox and sabonis are likely to rest. This is the exact reason you can’t punt a game on expectations of what other teams will do. The difference between being a 6 seed and the 8 seed is astronomical. Of course lakers realized this and is why they played Lebron heavy minutes.
