I think the Lakers should trade Davis and Westbrook for Durant and Kyrie. That would be a formidable big 3 for the Lakers. Better probably than the Harden-Durant-Kyrie threesome that the Nets once had. It would also give the Nets something to build around (Davis). It won't happen though, I know.
I wouldn't sell the Lakers short though. Health is a big IF but if they can keep everyone reasonably healthy, LeBron-Davis-Westbrook can be a good team in my opinion. That group was only available for 21 games together last season. Only 1 game and 17 minutes post all star. If my sorting is correct, they were 11-10 in the 21 games that all 3 played together (much better than the 22-39 they were in the other games). That is not enough for a group to learn how to play together. I understand that there are very strong personalities involved here but there is also a lot of talent. All they have to do is realize that they all want the same thing. How hard should that be? In the end, health will probably be their downfall. It seems unlikely that LeBron and Davis can hold up.
If Celtic ownership caught wind of this negotiation it could incentivize them to trade for KD and offer package around Brown. Goal is not only to win title but to prevent Lakers from having more. Don’t think the Nets are unaware of this sentiment.
I don't get the impression C's ownership and management are as concerned with the title count between the franchises as the fans are. Shame on Brad if he blows up the team based on that philosophy and shame on Brooklyn for giving up Durant for that duo. that'd be a move just for the sake of making a move
I'm pretty certain Boston ownership doesn't actually care who wins title if it isn't them. And frankly why should they? The championships of only 1 team matters.
Of course they care if it’s the Lakers. The owners are also fans.
Why? History makes no difference. The Lakers are pretty clearly the greatest franchise anyway if those things actually matter, which they don't.
Do people even know who has the most NFL championships (not Superbowls, but NFL championships)? It is the Packers with 13. The Bears are 2nd with 9. Giants have 8 and the the Pats and Steelers have 6. The Commanders, Bears, and Niners all have 5. The Browns and Lions have been abject failures in the Superbowl era, yet are both in the group of teams that have won 4 titles (along with the Rams, Colts, and Eagles).
I assume everyone knows the Yankees have the most MLB championships (because they have so many more than anyone else), but do you know who is 2nd (it is the Cardinals)? Similarly I assume everyone knows the Canadiens have the most NHL championships despite the fact they haven't won one since 1993 and have only won 2 since the 70's. But does anyone really know who is 2nd? It is the Maple Leafs and they haven't won a title since 1967. The Red Wings have the 3rd most wins and 2nd most SC appearances. Coincidentally the Bruins have the most 2nd place finishes with 14 (their 6 wins is tied with the Blackhawks at 4th all time).
