I saw the following click-bait title today:  "Kevin Durant goes at Celtics fans over their hostility toward Kyrie Irving".

And of course, I clicked.  Because, what Celtics fan doesn't want to get all defensive and p---ed off about Kevin Durant "going at" us?  And here's what he said:

Quote
Kevin Durant on Celtics fans’ hostility toward Kyrie Irving: “It’s rooted in love. They once loved you…had life altering experiences coming to games watching you play. So when it gets ripped from them in a trade…it feels like a piece of them is gone too.”

Seriously?  That's "going at" fans?

In short:  I hate click bait and what passes for "journalism" these days.  So, screw you Ky Carlin from USA Today.  You wasted 45 seconds of my life.

Cryrie has been fined $50k for flipping off the fans.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/33767384/kyrie-irving-fined-50000-flipping-celtics-fans-game-1

Glade they did something

NBA needs repeat offenders pay more each time ,  like next time 75k.   …..maybe another is 100k. or four in year , which is too much IMO and you are suspended a game .  Do it again and it’s automatic 2 games .

I don't like KD at all, but if you listen to that whole clip it was very insightful and poignant.  He showed a great understanding of what it means to be a fan and how that sometimes clashes with what it means to be a player.

Don't get fooled by KD. It's no different than a slick sleazy car salesperson.  It's all part of his disgustingness.

too bad he didn't apply some truth to that insight by saying conspiratorial free agency instead of trade and that insulting the team after leaving (by stomping on the team's logo and making accusations of a racist fanbase/town without substantiation) isn't going to endear the player to their former fanbase.

Btw, so Kyrie flips off the crowd multiple times in front of hundreds of cameras and he doesn't get T'd up at all? The refs really didn't notice while 18,000 fans and thousands of people watching on the TV did during the live game?

It’s fairly unusual and bizarre behavior (no he wasn’t doing this kind of stuff in Cleveland). So I don’t think the league has specific policies in place for this kind of thing. Maybe it has happened before, but I only have seen technicals for players taunting the opposing teams players, coach or bench. This is pretty unprecedented behavior for a player to flip the bird at fans multiple times during a game and I can’t remember it happening before. There have been single outburst like Barkley spitting or bridges more recently throwing his mouthpiece into the stands after being ejected. But can’t really recall multiple outbursts from one player over the course of a game before. So far we know of at least three incidents from yesterdays games. Really unhinged behavior

But is it really "really unhinged behaviour"?  ::)

This is much ado about nothing.

I don’t think it is going to kill anyone, but yes flipping off fans on two different occasions and then yelling suck my —— at fan in a third incident are signs of becoming unhinged. I’m confused why you think this is normal…

I think it's mildly distasteful. These dudes get all kinds of abuse hurled at them all the time. Getting fed up with that in a tense game isn't 'unhinged' behaviour, even if a large part of being a professional athlete is dealing with opposing fans.

Once he starts eating paste we can discuss his mental health. In the meantime, unclutch those pearls, your hands will start to hurt.

This is an interesting discussion. I think we may learn if he’s coming unhinged or not. I think if the Celtics were blowing out Brooklyn in Game 2 he could do something insane. Maybe it would be as harmless as more vulgar language.

Here's the problem. It obviously bothers him. If it didn't bother him he'd not react at all. Unfortunately for the Celtics, it motivated him on Sunday. Maybe it makes more sense for the fans at TD Garden to just ignore him? After all, Kyrie nearly outscored the Celtics himself in the 4th quarter.

I saw that on MassLive, it wasn't a click bait title with them though thankfully...i hate publications who do clickbait titles like that.

I did like KD's take though...you have a special dislike for the people you once cheered for, especially if they left on bad terms. We don't like to hear it but there is a bit of the jilted lover mentality about it

Yeah I mean not to the same extent, but KD got eviscerated by OKC fans and even Westbrook (sort of) for leaving OKC to go to the Warriors. There weren't middle fingers and such but people were referring to KD as a "cupcake", booing him, etc. lol.

I see what you did there! (same metaphor that Kyrie used in the press conference before Game 1 when alluding to coming back to Boston)

Just checking the Nets schedule...there's probably some extenuating factors, but prior to Jan 5, the Nets were 23-12. After Jan 5, they finished the season 21-26.

Jan 5? Cryrie's return to the team as a part time player.

nice.  would be awesome if some reporter put a little effort in to find that nugget and have the cajones to ask Kyrie about it in the presser

well they did improve to 29-16 on January 21st before losing 11 straight.  Durant's last game was January 15th.  He didn't play again till March 3rd and had fallen to 32-31 before he came back.

They just weren't the same team without Durant, which isn't surprising at all.

Lowe and Marks were roasting Kyrie on Lowe's podcast today. Total lack of self awareness, selfishness, etc.

Next season for the Nets is going to be fascinating. KD is looking frustrated with the whole thing. If they get Joe Harris back healthy and Ben Simmons is playing and they still struggle next season, it could get truly ugly.
