I think the real question is does Simmons make our def so much better that it offsets his offensive struggles and his huge contract? Smart is still a heck of a defender who isn't afraid to show up in the playoffs.
do we become instant co-favorites in the east if we make this trade? Honestly I am still not completely convinced.
Simmons brings more than defense. He is a playmaker with size the Cs desperately need.
Do you mean the playmaker that completely quit on his team that gave him a 177 Million dollar contract because he couldn't handle any criticism?
Or do you mean the playmaker that was a complete embarrassment during the last playoffs?
Or maybe you mean the playmaker that is lucky to shoot 60% from the ft line, and is borderline un-playable at the end of close games?
Is this the player you are talking about?
Honestly the “he quit on the team” argument doesn’t hold water.
It holds water to me. He stunk it up in the playoffs, got mildly criticized by his coach, then instead of working on the deficiencies to GET BETTER (like JT and JB have done), he decides that he is done with Philly. That to me is literally the definition of quiting on his team.
I don't care what bs that AD or Harden pulled to get themselves traded. Who cares...
I don't think we should trade Jaylen, no way. I am just questioning if it is worth it to bring Simmon in at all, where we seemingly already have locker room issues, aren't living up to our potential talent as a team.
I am not saying I wouldn't do the trade no matter what, but you better be real sure you can rehab Simmon's trade value or you are going to be stuck with a 35 mil, 38 mil, 40 million boat anchor cap issue in a couple of years. It's a gamble. It feels like Ben doesn't give a crap about becoming a great nba player, if you can't get him to change his attitude it isn't worth it.
