Schroder for the MLE is a bargain. I feel like people are unfairly judging his passing off of what he did in OKC, where he was a scorer. Schroder was a perfectly fine passer in Atlanta and LA. I’d start him.

Schroder / Pritchard / Dunn
Richardson / Smart / Langford
Brown / Nesmith
Tatum / Parker / Grant
Horford / Williams

I've been thinking that Nesmith should start and Josh Richardson should come off the bench.

So you get Smart and Josh Richardson as key bench players alongside Pritchard and Rob Williams. A more dependable group of contributors.

Then have Nesmith as a low usage shooter to play off the ball off of Tatum, Jaylen and Schroeder. Rather than Josh Richardson who would prefer to have more of the ball and be more involved in the offense. So having a low usage guy like Nesmith keeps the others happy.

that sounds like a good idea.  Just have to get Smart and J Rich to buy into that.  lol

Don’t forget Kanter.  ;)

If this is true I do like the rotation.
Ha, I certainly did forget about Kanter! Really curious about his role. Might see him alongside Horford or Williams, depending on Udoka.

Revised:
Schroder / Pritchard / Dunn
Nesmith / Smart / Langford
Brown / Richardson / Tatum
Tatum / Parker / Horford
Horford / Williams / Kanter

RE: Who, that's a good idea. Nesmith would stretch the floor better, and at this stage is better suited to working off-ball. Like you say, he won't need to handle the ball. Richardson and Smart would be a nasty bench duo to come up against.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Imo, the most realistic scenario would be to sign him on a 1-year contract via the non-taxpayer MLE. If so, we'd become hard capped at the apron, hence we'd have to dump some salary first. Chances are that the odd man out would be Kris Dunn. Perhaps this is part of the reason why we haven't finalized the deal yet: we're looking for a way to dump Dunn. At the same time, I bet Schroder is looking for more money. Not sure which team (if any) may offer him more than the non-taxpayer MLE.

At this stage in his career, Horford ain't mobile enough to stay in front of explosive swings on the perimeter. Imo, we should be using him exclusively at the 5.

I like Who's idea of starting an off-ball specialist alongside the Jays. Fwiw, I wanted us to start Nesmith last season as well prior to the Fournier acquisition. That said, I don't like any of the above depth charts tbh. Imo, Smart is at his best when running the point. Wouldn't want us to play him out of position one more season.

I guess Brad's depth chart would probably look like this (assuming we add Schroder and we somehow dump Dunn).

Ball handlers: Schroder, Smart, Pritchard, Edwards
Wings: Brown, JRich, Nesmith, Romeo
Swings: Tatum, Jabari, (Hauser)
Bigs: Horford, Timelord, Kanter, Grant, Fernando

If we sign Schroeder, that’s a huge gap filled imo. He’s a starter level point guard and can move Smart back to off guard.

Start Schroder with Smart-Brown-Tatum-Horford. Pritchard-Richardson-Timelord off the bench with either Nesmith or Parker, depending on the matchup. That seems like a playoff 9-man rotation. Can we beat the Bucks/Nets? Still unlikely, but I like our chances better against the 2nd tier of teams like the Hawks, Heat, and Knicks.

I would like to see Smart start at PG even if team lands Schro. Wonder what the plan is for trades as they need a PG roster spot.

If we sign DS, does Smart start at SG, with Richardson off the bench?  I’d prefer that.

Horford / Timelord / Kanter / Fernando
Tatum / Jabari / Williams
Brown / Nesmith
Smart / Richardson / Langford / Edwards
Schroder / Pritchard / Dunn

(That’s one over the roster limit. I would assume Edward would be the odd man out, unless the team goes ultra cheap and cuts Jabari.)

Compare that to:

Timelord / Thompson / Kornet
Tatum / Jabari / Williams
Brown / Nesmith / Semi
Smart / Fournier / Edwards
Kemba / Pritchard / Langford

If things work out, we could see a marginal upgrade, if Horford is playing well, Richardson or Schroder improve their shooting, etc.

But, signing him is a big if.

The problem with starting Schroder and Smart together is the lack of shooting in the backcourt. For that reason I'm somewhat suspicious of this signing.

It’s no different than Smart + Richardson.  All were 33% shooters last year.

It’s not ideal, but this is where the team put itself.

Boston needs a true legit PG though.  I'm fine with it.  I'd prefer a PF, but I can live with a PG.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

This situation kind of reminds me of the year we were rumored to be in discussions to sign-and-trade for David West.  It seemed a bit too good to be true.

I think a lot of us will be disappointed when another team swoops in and sees a chance for a bargain.  Which teams still have their MLE left?

Exactly. How much time does it take to sign a small contract?

I'm sure Schroder is trying to drive his price up first, maybe get other teams involved.

Question is, which teams still have their MLE left and are a better situation for Schroder compared to the Celtics? I mean, the C's offer him the opportunity to become a starter for a playoff team.

Obviously, Schroder's agent is trying to generate interest for his client. That said, we may still have a realistic chance to get him.

Why would Schroder's agent still be his agent after he blew away 80 million dollas.

Dallas? Clippers? New Orleans? Maybe only teams I can think of who could use Schröder
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
