Hear that the three-team trade (Bos.-ATL-Sac) will be announced soon, unchanged. ... Celtics await a response from Smart agent Jason Glushon, but are said to be willing to extend him for roughly $17M over four years.

Lots to digest...!!
Sorry but Smart ain’t worth that. #flexibility

Schroder needs to tell Smart to take the dough!

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant plans to sign a four-year, $198 million contract extension sometime after he becomes eligible on Saturday, @RichKleiman tells ESPN.
For more on the deal, go to @Boardroom:

Well that stinks.

I'm expecting all the Nets stars to re-up.

Yikes, are they all going to get $50M/yr? Obviously they have money to burn in BKN, but that would be $150M/yr for three players.

Clippers squad

G: Reggie Jackson, Rondo
G: Batum, Pat Beverley
F: Paul George, Terrence Mann, Luke Kennard
F: Kawhi Leonard, Marcus Morris, J.Winslow
C: Zubac, Ibaka

Is this a candidate for the deepest team in the league?

Clippers and Hawks both stand out as best benches to me here early in FA.

I'm not a cap expert, so forgive me if this sounds ignorant, but how is it that teams like Brooklyn, GS, and the Lakers are handing out huge extensions and signing numerous free agents while all the news coming out of Boston makes it sound as though we're in some sort of cap hell, and that we might not even be able to clear quite enough cap room to give Beal a max deal next offseason? Does this all come down to Boston's owners not wanting to pay the luxury tax, and these other teams have no problem paying the luxury tax?

They’re deep, but I believe Kawhi will be out most of the season.

IMO Brooklyn have the most talented roster going into the 21/22 season:

G: Kyrie Irving, Patty Mills, Jevon Carter
G: James Harden, Bruce Brown Jr, Cameron Thomas

F: Joe Harris, DeAndre Bembry
F: Kevin Durant, James Johnson, Alize Johnson

C: DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, Nicolas Claxton

It's basically true. Those teams are able to use exceptions like the taxpayer MLE and then sign solid veterans for the vet min. They then can extend whoever they want for whatever they want without a care in the world what tax they are paying. I suppose you can say that the Lakers didn't take it all the way by signing and trading Schroder for another big contract.

Not sure what the Cs plan is, and whatever if they are trying to avoid the tax this season, but fans will be rightly frustrated if we don't try to put a winning team around the Jays by next offseason. The Smart extension seems to go against the concept of opening up cap space, but I suppose they determined that his contract would at least be tradable.

My apologies, I thought he’d returned. He must be a cap hold.

I completely forgot Kawhi was hurt. That massively changes their expectations for next season. I wonder if they are even a playoff team in the West. That looks like, what a 45 win team without Kawhi? I wonder how many teams in the West can better that.

Utah, Suns, Nuggets, Lakers, Mavs

Then Nuggets Pelicans, Clippers, Kings, Blazers, Grizzlies fighting for the 3 remaining playoff spots. Oh and the Warriors. 6 teams.

Then Wolves, Rockets, Spurs and OKC bottoming out in the West.

Edit: I still have not adjusted to this whole play in thing. What is that, 10 teams? So only 1 of those 6 teams will miss out. Well that is anticlimactic.

Denver should trade Murray for Lillard. Win now move for the Nuggets and a win later move for the blazers who can just tank the season for a pick and come back next year with Murray.

Murray and Barton for Lillard works in trade machine....
