When I read the thread title, I thought the OP meant "If Kyrie signs here, will we get 4-5 years of whining from HIM?"

To which I would say, yes.

LOL.   Agreed.

I think we're in for four years of whining/criticism no matter what in the next 4 years because of how fandom and the NBA soap opera culture operates currently.

Specific to this team, I am skeptical. We had a lot of drama and criticism of the Big 3 era celtics and they were clear title contenders (and got one IMMEDIATELY) for a 4 year window.

I think Kyrie and this season have set some personalities against him and they're going to continue to rail and use him as a foil if he remains. Even if we get Davis and truly contend with some great seasons.

Kyrie is not a Celtic-type player and I'm not interested in spending $200 million on educating him on what it means to be one.

If Kyrie re-signs here and plays at an all-star level, will fans “rally around the family” and appreciate him for his strengths, rather than criticizing him for his faults?  Or will people brutally ride him, when he deserves it (this playoff series, lousy leadership) and when he doesn’t (pretty much his play on the court the entire regular season and first round).

I think Kyrie is a guy that needs to be embraced. Can our fans show him the love that he needs?

He is not returning nor does Wyc want him back

Fact or opinion?

Please expand.

I think there's a contingent of C's fans that will never like him no matter what happens.

This is not true

He was on a good path in year 1

Did we ever hear him talk BS?

It was after what happened with a Kyrieless Celts squad that made the ecf

He started to act up

There were posters who railed against Kyrie from the moment the trade was announced.

Year 1, I saw him freeze out Tatum way too many times, and the way Tatum played last year, that kinda told me all I needed to know about Kyrie.

Fans can be entitled, and some criticism is always fair, but frankly I think that Kyrie got a ration of crap that wasn’t commensurate with his play on the court.

This is the guy we signed up for (minus the last four games, which were hopefully a fluke).  We knew the dude was flakey, a poor defender, and a mediocre passer.  He’s a younger, bigger, healthier IT without IT’s heart and ability to get to the line.

He’s not changing. He’s not growing. He’s a top-15ish player that we’re licky to have, but who needs a 1A on this team.

I think it depends on his attitude. If we get a dedicated, team oriented, hard working Kyrie, fans will love him.

If we get the guy who thinks he's a leader but feels threatened by his teammates and is overly paranoid about social media and perception, then the whining will be endless.

I really think the playoff run last year killed this team. Tatum, Brown and Rozier almost reaching the NBA Finals without Kyrie changed everything. Those guys believed they are stars, and Kyrie came back and tried to put them in their place, the team got fractured permanently.

The only solutions are to either keep Kyrie and move the younger guys for someone like AD, go with Kyrie, AD, Hayward, Horford, Smart, Morris.

Or

Let Kyrie walk and hand the team over to Tatum and Brown. I can't see Kyrie co-existing with those two anymore.

F%#$ Kyrie! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!!! A complete and utter failure in every sense. I actually believe this team wins more games and might even go further without him on the team this year. 100% cancer. Addition by subtraction. If I'm Danny I don't even present an offer. The best case scenario is that he signs with the Lakers where he can continue as one of the most hated Lakers ever. They (the Lakers) would completely flounder even with Kyrie and in no way would even sniff the finals.

Probably, but it’s hard to forecast.

In the beginning Kyrie came with drama because of the Lebron and him wanting to be his own man thing. This narrative kind of fizzled out as the Celtics were looking good even after Hayward went down.

Then Kyrie was in drama again because he had got hurt and the Celtics “looked” to be playing better. So much better that they made it to the ECF without Him and Hayward. Looked worse when the Celtics were looking for support and Kyrie wasn’t there game 7..

Then Kyrie was in drama greatly in the start of this season because they came out the gate looking a mess. Although this was mainly because of the insertion of Hayward, but Kyrie wasn’t playing well himself. He wanted to be a leader, so the media treated him as such and put the blame on him. Now at this point it sucks to be Kyrie because he’s weighing the burden of “these young guys made it far without me and now we losing.”

So with that burden he had to first try and find a way to do his thing and keep his teammates happy which was impossible due to the amount of mins they were getting. Then he would try and make the fans and media happy by saying he’d be happy to stay. This was a lot for Kyrie to handle and on top of that they were still losing games.

So now he’s frustrated with everyone. He’s tired of being blamed for loses, he’s tired of his teammates believing they are better than what they are, he’s fed up with how brad was using him and even after saying he wanted to stay in Boston he’s STILL being questioned where he would go in the middle of the season.

See there are way too many drama stories involved with Kyrie to think there would be no drama if he resigns. Tbh now that I’m thinking about it.. I think I answered this question for both of us... yes There will still be drama even if Kyrie signs long term.

1 story would be that Kyrie needed another star and will never be good enough to win on his own (although he shouldn’t care about this because no one can do it alone)

Or the story is even with help Kyrie still can’t win and then they are going to compare him to Melo all the time.

Aaaand here's proof of my first post in this thread.

We're fishing now, but lucky to have him?

Will people please stop with this love fest for this guy.  I didn't even watch the game last night because I knew either he was gonna be trapped and force shots, and/or his teammates will lay down and watch him fail because they all want him gone.

If they bring this guy back next year, the season's over before it starts.

Yeah I largely agree. I still think this entire team works fine if Hayward is healthy and plays at roughly his prior level. A second 1b player who can do a lot of things Kyrie can't and makes the pecking order more streamlined for everyone other than Horford/Kyrie.
