In the 8th, Contreras bunts with first and second, playing small ball.  Then an intentional walk to Yoshida setting up a grand slam by Durbin to make it 5-0.  Boy, did the Sox need that.

And Tolle taking a shut out into the 8th, that is nice too.

Tolle is a stud...second game in a row that he only gave up 2 hits...this time 8 innings and no runs.  Feels good to win again, thanks Payton. And thanks to Caleb Durbin with his second grand slam this month.

Good win this afternoon. You can tell they are exhausted, so was nice to get another amazing start from Tolle and some timely, late hitting.

Let?s win this next series! Maybe Toronto can do us a favor and beat the Yankees up.

It?s going to be very interesting to see how they integrate these guys back into the mix.  Crochet would be nice to see too.  And way easier to drop into relevance.

Mead could be back for the playoffs too. Between Anthony, Rutschman, and Mead, that is a lot of potential added pop. I don?t know about Crochet.  Seems like he is running out of real estate.

Playoffs is not a lock but Sox could probably play 0.500 ball the rest of the way and still get the second wildcard.  I expect better than that but they need to dig in and close this out.

I hadn?t noticed how badly that 3rd AL Wild Card had dropped off since the Sox jetted into the 2nd spot.  Toronto could sneak back in the playoffs.

There are 7 teams within 3 games of each other for the final spot!

Yoshida headed to IL will help with the Roman re-entry situation.

Let's hope so.  It sounds like Yoshida may be done for the year.

Ouch, that does not help, but the team can survive that. I was digging into some stats, in the last 30 days (28 games for BOS), they have the best OPS in MLB and a record of 18-10.  BOS is also tops in Runs.  Only TB (19-8) and SD (19-9) have a better record.  BOS pitching has been good also (6th best ERA in MLB).

The question of course is how representative these last 30 days is for what the team really is.  A couple of weeks ago, I would have said that the last 30 days was not entirely representative due to the long win streak and all.  Now it is starting to feel a little more like steady state.  Durbin is looking like he will continue to hit.  Rutschman is starting to hit, and if we can get Anthony and Mead back, the team should continue to hit and score runs.

Now can the pitching hold up.  It seemed that BOS had so much pitching depth at the start of the season.  Gray, Tolle, and Bello+Opener are our best "starting" pitchers and have been surprisingly great.  Bennett starting to fade some.  Same for Suarez.  Not sure what to expect from Sandoval.  I feel the bullpen will be fine, continue to be a strength.
