Lets see how RJ87 and Goukie88 .. the presidents of Kyrie is life fanclub spin this

If Iam Danny Iam checking out what type of return you can get for Irving.  Irving is not the only one that can take the team hostage

As I have said time and time again, players don't owe loyalty to franchises. This is a business. They should do what's best them If Kyrie decides staying in Boston isn't in his best interest, then that's his right.

Of course this is your response

Does the Celtics come 1st or Irving?

So challenging my fandom is appropriate because I understand the realities of the business?

Do you understand the reality of how unsettling this is for the locker room

That is already not on the same page?

Where do you think calling out specific posters & questioning fanhood is gonna get you?

Tone it down.

He just keeps defending him

Ok will do..

And you've been attacking him for months.  What's your point?

Knock it off.

A positive spin:

If Kyrie leaves, the Celts still have the heart and soul of their team, because Kyrie is not actually the leader or culture setter of the Celtics despite being the best player.

Marcus Smart and Al Horford are the core of this Celtics team.

As long as they're around, I will be able to appreciate the Celtics even if they're definitely not contending for a title.
a better positive spin:
Kyrie's comments to check with him on July 1 is the same day his current deal is up and he can resign on a new contract.  That gets him out of the Rose rule preventing the AD trade and Danny is free to make a deal at that point.

too much doom and gloom here.  he's likely really freaking tired of the constant questions.

Here's a portion of the video - he mostly sounds quietly annoyed with the coverage. Doesn't include the quotes people are freaking about though.

I do think it would be in Kyrie's nature (based on what we've seen of him in the past) to be annoyed with these questions in the middle of the season, despite the fact he's stated clearly in the past that he was going to stay, and say something flippant that is ambiguous but is also quite literal:

"I don't want to talk about this right now, ask me in July."

I know people really love to talk about the sky falling...

But couldn't his comments also be interpreted as someone who is sick of answering questions about his Free Agency in the middle of the season, considering he already came out the beginning of the season and announced his intentions.  I dunno, if I came out to an arena full of people and said what I wanted to do, then had to answer questions about where I think I'll end up based off of speculative rumors that as far as we know aren't even coming from Kyrie.

There have been reports for MONTHS about his desire to sign certain places.  No hard sources, just things like "someone close to the situation."  It's all speculative.  The only words spoken by Kyrie regarding any of this was the night in Boston where he said he had intentions of resigning.

Obviously these things can change, but why are we so quick to believe reports from unnamed sources versus right out of the man's mouth?  I'd probably be fed up with the questions and answer similarly.

Exactly.  I think he said that in the beginning of the season so he wouldn't have to answer these questions in every city he goes to over the season.  He's  asked this now, not because of anything he said or did but because the media took a phone call he made to Lebron and turned it into a complete circus.  We wonder why athletes go out of their way not to say anything meaningful in interviews.  This is why. He doesn't owe anyone anything.

That being said, I do hope this doesn't make the Pelicans queasy about waiting for Boston in the offseason.  Six more days.

WRONG on the bolded part. He owes the Boston Celtics a duty of loyalty not to do anything detrimental to the interest of that team while under contract. He is getting paid a lot of money for that duty. That is why he has a contract. That contract goes beyond bouncing a ball and throwing it to other players or into a hoop.

Who are the Boston Celtics? Well it is an organization that provides entertainment and depends on a well developed fan base. Sports fans must be the most gullible people on earth. They do not even know their own power. They do not realize that they are part of the business yet they willing pay when others get paid for the value they bring to the production. It is time for sports fans to realize their power and organize.

This silly attitude that the players that YOU pay do not owe you anything is false and really should stop.

It feels like all this may hinge on Davis. If we get Davis I just don't see Kyrie leaving. Even if KD went to new York, would you (a 27 year old Kyrie) rather stay and team up with a 26 year old Anthony Davis or a 31 year old Kevin Durant? Seems like an easy choice especially given our other pieces would be far superior. If we don't get AD tho and you are clearly the best player on the team with a 33 yo Horford and a shell of Hayward waiting on young guys its a much harder call.

And while I think New York can make a very good  offer for AD, certainly better than the Lakers, I still think we can beat it. The offer would have to include Tatum, MEM, SAC, LAC, a couple BOS firsts, SMART Or Hawyard, ect, but it could be done. The complicating factor is if NYK get #1 pick, then we may be in trouble. Even if you believe Tatum is a better prospect, and he may not be, the Zion hype factor will likely matter to NOP.

I will be watching the NBA lottery very closely.

You may be right, I'm just trying to provide myself with a narrative in which I can feel OK even if Kyrie does sign elsewhere and the Celts are left in the position of not having a superstar (i.e. where no NBA team wants to be).

I wish people would stop. We have a team that may go to the Finals this year. Can we enjoy that without all the handwringing about what might happen next year? Wait and see. Enjoy the ride.
But this has an effect right now.  Everybody is already disgruntled.  This amplifies that.

And you know that how? This disgruntled team just went 11-4 in January.

It’s the NBA. Players get traded, players leave. Look what happened to Isaiah. Look how Utah did after Gordon left. The sky might fall, it might not. Why the focus on what might happen next season before we have even really ramped up for this year’s playoffs?

Nah, Kyrie came out and definitively said he was resigning and now its wait until July 1st.

The guy is so confusing and doesn't know what he wants. The money is the money it's not changing so either state and reaffirm the same thing or I'm trading his butt. What has changed? Is he upset the young guys don't want to follow him? Well of course because they were good without you.

Count me in a trade by Thursday.

Absolutely this.  And minus Irving the young guys will have accelerated growth.  We would still be a very good team and with a move or two we could be right there at the top with the best teams in the league.

Again, where's that accountability for the franchise? You can't expect absolute loyalty one way and not the other. A contract is between two parties. He's not saying he won't play the rest of the season for the Celtics, so how it is detrimental? Is it also detrimental when teams dangle players in trade talks in the middle of their contract?

And for all the money they make, the franchise makes significantly more money from the players. I'm sure if you look at the money made off of guys like Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Isaiah Thomas, it far exceeds their contracts. Didn't stop Danny from trading them.

Yeah, when you actually listen to this and read what Kyrie is saying and not the tiny soundbites people are pushing to make their narrative, it's clear that Kyrie is mostly frustrated with all of the reporting going on from "anonymous sources" that have no idea what they're talking about and are pushing their own agendas. Like these quotes here:

https://twitter.com/AdamHimmelsbach/status/1091372794452029440

Quote
Kyrie: "What excited me a lot about the beginning of the season was the opportunity to come into this season really just doing what we planned on doing, set a goal & go after it & then see what happens at the end of the season. That was the plan before & that’s still the plan now"

https://twitter.com/AdamHimmelsbach/status/1091372054199365632

Quote
Kyrie: "At the end of the day I spent the last eight years trying to do what everybody else wanted me to do in terms of making my decisions and trying to validate through the media, through other personnel, managers, anybody in this business."

Kyrie was clearly hoping to avoid all of this nonsense this year and focus on the team and winning, which is likely why he made the shortsighted proclamation before the season.

Another thing to think about it - Kyrie knows that all of this is coming from other teams and groups that are wannabe suitors for him or have ulterior motives, specifically LAL, NYK, and the ClutchSports group. If he's that ticked about all of this right now, why would he then just go running to them this summer for more of the same? It makes no sense. We are still the best basketball situation for him.

There have been tons of reports of the young guys being dissatisfied with minutes.  Plus Irving criticized them to the media and everyone heard that.

He is after security and most money.. The team that can only give those is Boston.. Stop stressing.
He already has a ring  and has said before he is after legacy.. He wants his number retired in the rafters.

He is p---ed at the media to keep bugging him these silly questions so best answer would be to just ask him July 1st.

Nothing wrong with what he said because even if he says he is re-signing for the 1836274th time.. Will people believe him.. Probably not so just ask him July 1st...he naver said I'll be seeking meetings with other teams.. He said ask him July 1st.

TP for a rational and reasonable response to this.
