Is Ainge and the front office allowed to talk directly to Davis sometime this week or next?
Not unless NOP grants permission.

Such permission would immediately be leaked to the media via Rich Paul naturally, so I don't imagine it will be granted.

C's can of course talk to Rich Paul whenever they want, regarding Marcus Morris  ;).

AD's agent already warned the Celts to stay away from AD.

I think it's time to walk away.

Let Kyrie go to NY.

Trade Horford for Capela.

Keep Hayward.

Start rebuilding again and hopefully no shortcuts this time.
Rich Paul, first and foremost, works for LeBron James. Klutch Sports is basically LeBron's agency. So I take anything coming out of Rich Paul's mouth with a massive grain of salt because I assume anything Paul says is to further advance any agenda LeBron wants, above even the desires of any other player Paul represents.

Until I hear from Davis that he doesn't want to be in Boston or won't re-sign, I am not writing off acquiring Davis because Davis' agent is compromised.

I agree.

But it's also very unlikely AD will commit to Boston long term if he gets traded to Boston.

It's in AD's best interest to become a FA next summer.

Right now it's looking like it's too big a risk for Boston.
Davis won't sign an extension, it would cost him money. He is definitely going to free agency. But a successful year in Boston could make him want to re-sign after next season.

It could but the move could also very well backfire on the Celtics. He walks and this organization is screwed for the near future.

It's one helluva gamble.  Especially in the instance that Kyrie walks in a few weeks.
Oh, definitely a gamble. But I think Ainge takes the gamble.

This "warning" is all about getting AD to the Lakers THIS YEAR. If AD doesn't get to the Lakers by next season, Paul knows that it might not happen. If he already thinks AD doesn't end up on the Lakers if it doesn't happen this offseason, that kind of tells you how much to worry about this "threat" of going into free agency. Paul knows AD might actually re-sign with the team trading for him and that's why he wants the only option to be the Lakers.

Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Your post is what doesn't make sense. Rich Paul isn't an independent or a journalist, running around out there shouting his opinions. He works for Anthony Davis. lol at the trade-at-any-cost folks who act like Paul is driving all this and not Davis.

When did all of this start?
Months ago.

It's been going on for months. Paul is just more vocal about it right now. I'd suspect because the LAL aren't making the offer NO wants.

If AD wanted to come to Boston, he'd tell Paul to shut his mouth. End of story. It's not as if AD was forced to hire him and has no say in what's transpiring. It would be idiocy to throw Tatum away in this environment.

Rich Paul is a little turd that has done zero with his life but milk a famous high school friend.

I personally do not want him having any part of the Celtics organization. I would rather stay young, make 1, 2 or all the draft picks and cheer for guys that want to be here. Another year like we had with Kyrie and his future would be dismal.

Let AD go to the Lakers and play along a broken down Lebron. It is not worth trading all your assets and putting yourself in rebuild mode when AD leaves.

I do agree that Paul is doing whatever he can to steer things to the Lakers. And shame on SI for being a propaganda mouthpiece for this little Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline..

No, I would not. Stay young add a piece or two from the draft and trade for a vet.

Hope Hayward returns to form and he excels in a Kyrie-less system. And also tell Rozier to kick rocks.

For those people doubting that this is mainly coming from Paul and not Davis, see that in the article that Paul admitted to being the one who leaked the trade demand to go public rather than keep it in-house. Dude does not have Davis’ best interests in mind but rather Klutch Sports and Lebron James.

TP. This is all to make LeBrick happy. Same stuff they did in Cleveland (twice) and now in LA. Cavs went out and got everyone James/Paul wanted...Shaq, Marion. Amare...Cavs let these clowns run the franchise.

AD hired Rich Paul in September. Prior to that Davis always said he wanted to win in New Orleans. 4 months later the circus started. You think AD was just waiting for Rich Paul?

These are Rich Paul tactics.

And yet, months later, who is still representing Davis? I guess Paul forced Davis to wear a "That's all folks!" t-shirt to a Pelicans game.

LA would have to trade every decent player to get AD. It would be only AD, James and a bunch of scrap heap players. Knicks? Going to have to move Robinson, Barrett and Knox. Not much meat left there esp. if KD does not come...and he won't play this next year anyway.

AD would be in a bad spot if he was limited to either LA or NY, which is the scenario Paul is trying to perpetuate.

Much better for the client to have more options, including going to one location next year and then signing in free agency with whatever team he wants the year after. It seems critical to Paul that AD lands in LA (or NY) this year. This is more about Lebron and Paul than about AD. As far as AD's interests, he can go into free agency without threatening whichever team he is on next year.

LA James and Paul are desperate to get the deal done by the draft. Timing is everything with this article. Longer this goes, the worse off for them.

Even if your premise is 100% correct, AD is letting Paul call the shots. AD didn't back away from Paul's comments in NO, he doubled down on them. Either way, there's very little chance of a path to AD that leads to him in Boston long term, other than the hope and prayer the teams he wants to go to run out of cap room. You can spin it any way you want, AD doesn't want to be in Boston, or the man AD is allowing to run his career for him doesn't want him in Boston.
