http://celticswire.usatoday.com/2018/02/23/gordon-hayward-still-weeks-away-from-traveling-with-boston-celtics-per-brad-stevens/
Stevens was asked by the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy for an update on Hayward and Stevens explained the progress Hayward is making ramping up his training on the Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill, which reduces weight impact on running for athletes with lower body injuries.

“We talked the other day, he’s going to do another Alter-G kind of process or progress starting on Sunday where he goes from 60-percent all the way to 100,” Stevens said, via MassLive’s Jay King. “Once he gets to 100 — or I guess in the Alter-G, 90-95 — once he can do stuff running or jumping, then it makes sense to bring him on the road. It doesn’t look like it’s any time in the next couple of weeks.”

The Alter-G creates a vacuum chamber on your lower body to reduce your body weight as you run on its state of the art treadmill, allowing Hayward to run at 60% of his body weight and significantly reduce the stress on his ankle. This allows Hayward to run sprints and build up his conditioning while his ankle continues to heal and strengthen

The transition from running at 60% weight on an Alter-G to basketball activities is still pretty massive, so this progress update shows he is still probably months away from playing basketball again. He continues to be making steady progress in his return, but there just may not be enough time left in the season for that return date to line up with the Celtics schedule.

I don't see Hayward coming back this season anymore, and honestly I'm fine with that.

I never did. Always seemed like a pipe dream to me.

Interesting that Gorman said tonight that while Hayward is not 'expected' back, no one has said he definitely won't be back.

Do we want a 30% Hayward in the playoffs which could affect team chemistry, or a 100% Hayward in 2018-2019 season?

I like the idea of the latter. I already submitted to the fact that the Celtics aren't winning #18 this year after Hayward went down five minutes into the season. But making at least an ECF appearance would be awesome without Hayward.

If he's at 30% there's no way he's seeing the court.  And I just don't get how you guys give up on this team off so consistently.

I’m in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp.

Do I expect him back? No. Can I see him returning this year? Yes,

It sounds like he’s close to full weight-bearing running and jumping. What’s left after that? I’m sure the bone is 100% healed, otherwise he wouldn’t be cleared for anything. So now it’s just seeing how he responds (pain/imflammaton-wise) and getting his conditioning back. He’s been doing shooting and dribbling drills for months, so those shouldn’t be an issue.

So he’s going to be traveling with the team, probably by March 23 for that four-game trip.

Assuming he has no setbacks, why can’t he see some real action a month after running/jumping? Add in walkthroughs/practices and full conditioning drills, I don’t think it’s preposterous he can play a handful of games in April.

Like I said, I don’t expect him, and that’s exactly what the C’s are saying. They curiously haven’t ruled him out, presumably to eliminate any pressure on him (and temper fan expectations/excitement). But what point is there to bring him along on the road? Sounds like they want him with the team for a reason beyond getting reps.

Probable? Maybe not. Possible? Absolutely.

Hayward at 30% is better than Semi.

The playoffs begin in about 50 days. It doesn’t seem reasonable for Hayward to begin running on his full body weight in three weeks, probably jumping in four or five, and then suddenly be thrust into a playoff situation.

Before Alter-G technology, would Hayward be running on his full body weight? Or would he be weeks away from running at all?

3.32 left in game 6, up 16 at the garden. Does Hayward run out there to taste the championship??
