Yes, given where he is now, highly unlikely that he returns this season.

My fervent hope is that he eventually will be 100% recovered, even if it takes middle of next season to get there.  Watching him pre-season with the team, just had a great vibe about them.  Perfect system player under Stevens.

he looks a little heavier....probably because he isnt allowed to run yet.

He looked so out of shape (not blaming him, not much you can do when your ankle is facing the wrong direction) that I don't even see how he could be NBA game ready this season.  Even if fully healed, I don't see how someone can go from a dad bod to NBA playoffs in 70 days.

3.32 left in game 6, up 16 at the garden. Does Hayward run out there to taste the championship??

Ya forgot which round and how much the Celtics are leading by in the series  ;D C's could be down 3-2 and force a Game 7  ;D ;D ;D

coming back

It is written
Interesting that Gorman said tonight that while Hayward is not 'expected' back, no one has said he definitely won't be back.
Not really a surprise.  Gorman was probably reading off the official Celtics info release.  In such situations "not expected" means "not".  He won't be back this season.

Do we want a 30% Hayward in the playoffs which could affect team chemistry, or a 100% Hayward in 2018-2019 season?

I like the idea of the latter. I already submitted to the fact that the Celtics aren't winning #18 this year after Hayward went down five minutes into the season. But making at least an ECF appearance would be awesome without Hayward.

Hayward at 30% is better than Semi.

This 100% At least he'll make the open shots

A buddy (and diehard Celtics fan like me) at work was saying that we'd rather he just come back next year - as much as my heart longs for him to return THIS year.

Our fears are that a 20% or 30% Hayward would DEFINITELY help our team this year but knowing HIM and his passion for the game he'd probably try TOO hard and place himself at risk...

This isn't the 08-12 Celtics, thank God. That iteration of our Celtics was ALWAYS racing against the clock.

THIS version of BOS has TIME. Even a 35-36 year old Al Horford would be extremely effective on this team.

Take your time Hayward don't rush it.

Also: Don’t count on Gordon Hayward coming back this season, either. Stevens has been unequivocal when asked about Hayward (“I’ve said all year, not coming back,” Stevens said) and now the calendar is working against him. I saw Hayward before the All-Star break. He’s walking fine, but his ankle was still swollen and still purpleish, which makes it impossible to believe he will be ready to play before mid-April.

The break was about 2 weeks ago and I doubt he still has swelling unless it occurred during rehab. What he's seeing is probably calcification.

It's simple folks.

The Cs have $128,000,000 invested in Gordo. They're not going to jeopardize that for a handful of games, even playoff games. Hayward would have to be 100% healthy and going full bore in practice before the Cs would even think about putting him on the court in a game. It's simply too much risk.

They want to avoid a Grant Hill scenario. Remember that he signed with Orlando (sign & trade) on a 7 year deal and played only 4 games his first year with them due to ankle injuries. He then played 14, 29 and zero games his next 3 years.

We've lost the first year with Hayward - that's a sunk cost - but you don't play around with the nearly $100m left in order to try to get him on the court too soon. You make double and triple sure he's fully healed before you let him sniff the court because a repeat incident blows the entire investment.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Wish Gordo could come back. It would make for an awesome story. But I want him back at 100%. If that means next season, so be it. Can't wait until next season to see our wings in action!

There was so much going on in that play. I don't think it's fair to assign blame to anybody in particular.

There is no guarantee he won't break his leg or hand next season even if he is 100% , it already happened once, so why not let this guy play if he think he is ready to go

No, but the odds are wayyy higher that suffers another injury if he comes back without being 100% healed. If he's not 100% he's not coming back. That simple.
