Ya there's no way Hayward ' first game back will be a playoff game. They aren't going to throw him into a fame that really matters like that without knowing where he us mentally and conditioning qise, and u just can't know that untill you play a game. He may yet return, but if he isn't back by the end of the regular season he's staying out.

I think the staff can tell a lot in practice, mentally and physically. Plus they can test and measure his conditioning other ways, like a treadmill with sensors, etc. I see no reason why his first game back can't be a playoff game.

Ya no way. Practice can tell u alot but you just don't know how he's gonna look on game action. What if you b throw him out there and he's bad because of conditiojing, rust or just not being integrated? That can lose u a  game u need. His first game won't be a playoff game, if it's that close they will keep him out

The road back with @GordonHayward.

Coming soon.

Along with a short video of him dribbling and shooting jumpers and being out of breath.

He's looking really good. He may not be ready in time to play in the regular season, or even the 1st round, but keep in mind the 2nd round starts in 2 months.

If he isn't back by the end of this month I don't see him coming back. To throw him out there in the middle of the playoffs seems like a very bad idea.

Why? What's the difference? If he plays like Joe Ingles during the playoffs, a player that can space the floor, pass the ball, and make all the right reads, that's a definite plus. I'm not calling him to play major minutes, but a couple of 5-8 minute stints a game could go a long way between winning and losing.

Because he’s very unlikely to be 100%.  Inherently, that makes him more of a re-injury risk.  Why risk that for 10 to 16 minutes worth of role player level play?

Wait, the 100% you're referring to is that health or game? That's a huge difference. I wouldn't want him playing unless he's 100% healthy. But if he's healthy, he's healthy. Just like George returned very late in the year and struggled to play at an all-star level, but was healthy enough to play.

He needs to be 100% physically and mentally healthy, and in game shape.  CBS and Hayward’s agent have declared him out for the year.  I just don’t see a lot of indication that he’s significantly ahead of schedule.

It's simple folks.

The Cs have $128,000,000 invested in Gordo. They're not going to jeopardize that for a handful of games, even playoff games. Hayward would have to be 100% healthy and going full bore in practice before the Cs would even think about putting him on the court in a game. It's simply too much risk.

They want to avoid a Grant Hill scenario. Remember that he signed with Orlando (sign & trade) on a 7 year deal and played only 4 games his first year with them due to ankle injuries. He then played 14, 29 and zero games his next 3 years.

We've lost the first year with Hayward - that's a sunk cost - but you don't play around with the nearly $100m left in order to try to get him on the court too soon. You make double and triple sure he's fully healed before you let him sniff the court because a repeat incident blows the entire investment.
There is no guarantee he won't break his leg or hand next season even if he is 100% , it already happened once, so why not let this guy play if he think he is ready to go

Because there's a difference between "ready to go" and "healed". I hurt my left hand boxing. I was "ready to go" after 3-4 months. I was only healed about a year after the injury. For those 8 months I coped with minor pain, swelling and no doubt had a higher risk of re-injury.

That's why NFL players often come back after an ACL after 6-8 months but they're not really right for about a year and a half. They can play but it's not quite the same. Give Gordo the full year to heal and let him come back next year.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

at the end of the end of the day it is totally up to hayward, but with only 19 games to go until the playoffs it is looking bleak for Hayward to return....Which is ok. I dont think even with hayward we have enough firepower to take out the warriors.

I always thought next year is our year to really be a true contender. You will have added development for Tatum/Brown...and adding Hayward's 20ppg to the team we should be really special.

This year is going to be a good building year, and hopefully we can go deep into the playoffs.

I'm telling you what, this year is a developmental year. Hayward comes back to camp 100%.

And our corps of young guns comes back with a years experience and growth and some more playoff games for Brown and Rozier, plus Tatum and Theis. Next year I feel very good about where those 4 will be in their growth, plus the return of Hayward, Irving settled in more, and of course Horford playing solid ball.

Hayward though...no chance or reason for him to try to come back less than 100% to take development
time from Tatum and Brown. Gotta let the stew simmer.

A lot to look forward to next season.  The most uncertainty is in the frontcourt with unclear C's futures for Baynes and Morris.  In my ideal world, I'd like to simply add Hayward to this current roster as he brings exactly what the team is still missing, but I know that won't happen.

Never thought for a second that he would. The minute he went down this became a developmental year and, quite honestly, I couldn't be happier with how the young guys have developed and how players have created and filled their roles. I am excited to be able to watch them in the playoffs this year and truly believe they will be real contenders for the title for a bunch of years to come.

Why? He's signed through next season. Unless you're referring to his play.

I think Baynes will be retained along w Monroe and the team will look like this next year. Morris will be elsewhere most likely.

Irving/Rozier
Brown/Smart
Hayward/Tatum
Horford/Theis
Baynes/Monroe

Morris becoming productive for his contract. Doubt he gets moved.

I'd rather have Hayward back 100% next year and give the young guns serious playoff experience.
