I wonder why they've been unable to move him considering they've clearly been trying. Surely some team would part with at least a first?

Teams that are good don't want to give up much for a player who won't help much right away and bad teams don't have much to give up.

Okafor joining Sixers in Boston

We play Philly tomorrow. I dont suspect this means anything.

Yeah its extremely weird for a philly player to be flying to boston when philly have a game against boston tomorrow....not

maybe spent more time researching details of the situations and less times try to make dismissive comments? Yes it is extremely weird for a team to send a player they have told they don't want to play or travel with the team and didn't take on their previous game after he said good bye to teammates and staff to a game with them. It is actually unprecedented. Now does this really mean anything in the grand scheme of things if he is here or not? No, but this is clearly a more a complicated situation than a guy just going to a city with his team and this kind of dismissive stuff adds nothing to the thread.

You were saying...

I have explained like 5 times in this thread why this is a crazy situation whether he got traded to Boston or whether he was there to rejoin the 76ers. Again focus more on the situation and stop worrying about being clever or dismissive. It really adds nothing to the board.

We can now discuss what it is like for a guy to go back to a team after he said good bye to his teammates,  the organization removed him from two games and didn't let him travel with his team and now has him back. It is an unmitigated disaster for the 76ers and something that is worth discussing to a lot of people.

Best bit about the comments is the guy moaning that Sac beat LA, the worst result for their pick chances! Karma baby!

It's rumor season.  They wrote entire articles based on Okafor shaking some hands.  It was dumb.  He's been off an on with the team all year.  They have been trying to trade for Jimmy Butler.  If that happens it will happen at the trade deadline.  We only have a week more of this.

This isn't accurate. While he had had numerous dnpcd, he has never not come along for a road trip cause he was about to be traded. Also, this just isn't normal. I've been following basketball for 20 years and played being asked to stay away cause they were being traded and then asked back with no explanation just isn't something that happens. If he was going to get traded and someone failed a physical, sure that happens. Nobody knows what this is

Yeah there is zero to this. Okafor is going to NO or Chicago. Zero chance for Boston.

1) Even if they move Mickey Jackson Young and a 2nd for him the Celtics will still not have enough for Gordon Hayward who is Ainge's number 1 target.

2) Okafor cannot shoot the 3. All players on the team are essentially required to do so

3) Okafor is over 6'10. That's a deal breaker.

I doubt Hayward is Ainge's #1 Target....#3-4...perhaps

No way. Hayward is his first call at midnight when FA opens up. The Brad connection plus his ability to shoot the ball and not embarrass himself from the 3 point line is what Danny is looking for. I mean I would be lying if I didn't say  Gordon doesn't help this team. He does. But the Celtics will be going nowhere without a rim protector. If the master plan is to sign Hayward and lock up AB and IT then it's going to be a long ride on the treadmill. But back to Okafor. Okafor would give this team size. He's a projectable big. Something this team does not have.

Here are a list of sites to NEVER believe :

METRO
Yibada
iTech
The Inquisitir
Christian Post

They hold no actual source and just try to regurgitate whatever small rumor that may be out there..

Inquisitir and METRO, you have NO IDEA how many Jimmy Butler and PG13 rumors I hear out of those sites.

Sad part is, quite a few Celtics fans out there actually believe it and get all hyped up lol.

I am familiar with Yabada, the Inquisitor and Christian Post. I would not have shared anything from them. I had not seen metro before either on here or in my normal searches so did not know a lot about it. If it is like the others that is fine we can just lock the thread. Their site does look a lot less ridiculous than the other one's mentioned.

I'd say Metro isn't a reliable site but compared to the other's, it comes out looking a bit more realistic.

Like Yabada and Inquisitr practically come out saying "this trade is about to happen"..

For what it is worth.. i believe he is actually in Boston

https://twitter.com/Solefood23/status/831674089299402752

If he is just joining the team tomorrow that is one of the most insane things I have ever heard.

They pull him from the lineup
Tell him to not fly with the team to charlotte
Elton Brand thanks him for his contributions to the team in a tweet
He says good bye to teammates and the training staff

Then they just have him meet in boston? What the heck. That is a horrible way to treat a young player.

Some info for those that chose to mock rather than be informed

It isn't insane at all.  A trade was close so they held him out, but then the trade talks don't progress and maybe break off completely, so with no trade imminent you play your player.

players get held out of games when trades are imminent all the time, now granted the trades usually go through, but not always.

I challenge you to name one other example. Because " not always" would indicate this situation happens occasionally.

I can't remember another instance of a player not just being held out of the line up but told not to travel with the team because of an impending trade and then it falling through.  Guys getting traded and then failing the physical? Sure, but not this.

Not that I know anything behind the scenes but this is terrible way to treat the young guy...

I get he has made questionable choices in his career but this can't feel good as a player

Ray Allen was told he was traded to Memphis by Ainge.  The trade obviously broke down and never happened.
