I would not mind Oakfor having a shot .  There is lots of guys to straighten out his path.  If not he ll go the way of Sully.   Worth a risk for a young guy cheap .

If we trade for Okafor, I'm burning my Danny Ainge Blue Jays rookie card.   Okafor the worst player to ever play the game.  He's horrible.

If we trade with Philadelphia, I'd strongly recommend trying to get Dario Saric before Ben Simmons returns.   Saric is still a risky pick-up, but the more he adjusts to United States basketball, the more he looks like a young Larry Bird.  His shooting percentages are up and he's averaging 20 points over his last 5 games.  If Embiid actually misses more games, Saric will be Rookie of the Year.  Saric is best at power forward, but can play some small forward as well.

With Marcus Smart's rise to greatness, maybe we can kill two birds with one stone and trade Avery Bradley + Jae Crowder for Dario Saric and Nerlens Noel.   It makes perfect sense for both teams.  Philadelphia will clear out their log jam, clear minutes for Simmons, get needed guard and small forward help.   Because it's working so well, Boston can continue to start Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown.  Boston will get a future star in Saric and a solid defensive center in Nerlens Noel.   Boston will also then be able to draft one of the 2017 guards without having to worry about their roster crunch.

I also would think far less of Aimge if he traded for Okafor.  However, the overwhelming evidence points to Ainge being an intelligent GM.  I'm confident we won't trade for such garbage.

How can an a 20 year old kid be GARBAGE that has not been healthy all year?    And put up those numbers last year.   Kid has proven to have talent.  Every level he has been labeled talented....

If we give up some late firsts and Mickey, JAckson to match salary I'm on board!!!!!    This kid could destroy second teams coming off our bench.   We could use a post player.....   On a side note.......why is he GARBAGE?

On second thought, I think garbage is too complimentary to Okafor.

Hes not perfect, but would be a good project. I'd give up like the Mephis, LAC, and Bos 18 for him, maybe even add in Rozier

Mickey/Young/Jackson/2nd round pick for Okafor...works money-wise...Opens 2 roster spots...then add Larry Sanders or a released player.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

If the price is right I would love to get Okafor as developmental piece. I would be fine bringing him along slowly and giving him Zellers minutes.

Agreeded hes not the piece.   But hes a classic buy low type of player, with high reward if he pays off.     Imagine getting a top 3 big man....he would be the most talented YOUNG big man we had since Al Jefferson.     Kid needs coaching, but he has all the tools.

His lack of rebounding and defense doesn't fill one of our needs right now. But he is big, can set picks, roll.  Play Center while Al launches 3s.....  I'll take him..   Problem is will Philly let him go.   5 million a year for his service is a steal with the CAP.

We need depth.....  Okafor at 5million 3 years over Zeller and his 8 and a future  1st rounder in the 20s......  Where do I sign?

Yeah there is zero to this. Okafor is going to NO or Chicago. Zero chance for Boston.

1) Even if they move Mickey Jackson Young and a 2nd for him the Celtics will still not have enough for Gordon Hayward who is Ainge's number 1 target.

2) Okafor cannot shoot the 3. All players on the team are essentially required to do so

3) Okafor is over 6'10. That's a deal breaker.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If we could get Okafur for scraps it would be amazing.
Get him in a locker room of vets, with other hungry young guys like Jaylen, Marcus with Crowder, IT, Horford rubbing off on him.
The x factor here is Brad Stevens.

If he costs nothing it's a GREAT gamble with little consequence if he doesn't pan out.
The guy has an All star potential post game and he's young.

If the price is cheap, roll the dice I say.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I doubt Hayward is Ainge's #1 Target....#3-4...perhaps

I know it's unlikely given all that's gone down with him, but maybe Okafor isn't going anywhere?

Maybe Embiids injury is such that it is giving Colangelo pause to move the lazy, surplus big, because maybe he isn't surplus.

I'd like to have him here for cheap. WAY too Young to be given up on.

Look at James Young. I didn't even think the guy had a pulse....he was intolerable. He showed flashes of tolerability in his last two outings. ( meaning he didn't look like a total waste)

He is probably Ainge's most realistic target. I was definitely thinking that getting Okafor would hamper the ability to sign a player like Hayward, but Bradley or Crowder would be extremely easy to move if he agreed to sign here. I hate to move either of those guys as a salary dump, but I would hope we could at least get a very good young player on their rookie contract - lots of teams will have cap space.

I wonder why they've been unable to move him considering they've clearly been trying. Surely some team would part with at least a first?

Maybe they didn't want to eat the salary of Asik from NO. Not sure what the Bulls were offering for him.
