Would you rather Rivers, Crawford, and Johnson or Shumpert, Thompson, and Felder?

Comon. This is a bidding tactic. The Cavs have to make a play, and if Rivers and Crawford is the top offer right now, the Cavs can top that with Thompson and Shumpert.

Amir/Zeller/Olynyk/Young/2018 Boston#1/couple of 2nd rounders...for Melo and O'Quinn.

Tops....maybe try to get Bogut after that...and see what happens.
Bring over Zizic next season---Draft a Top 3 Pick again.

Couldn't you just flip him again if they need cap space and haven't invested too much?   I don't know,  Melo absolutely makes this Celts team better and makes this season more interesting.  Isn't that what sports are supposed to be about?
It would be really tough to flip him.

Thompson is too important to what Cle does defensively. I dont think they trade him for Melo.

Read the article.

They're hoping he'll waive his clause for cleveland or the clippers.

The Celtics will be in this as facilitators only and may get a big to assist the rebounding or defense.

Just so those that only read the thread title know....Boston and LAC have already said no to a Melo trade.

Um, this is not true at all lol

All sources indicate that the Clips are currently talking to the Knicks about a possible deal not involving any of their Big 3, and there's no indication that Boston said no. The Knicks just gauged their interest on a trade, and I highly doubt trader Danny gave Phil a hard no, since there's no report that that happened at all.
Oops. Read the linked article in OP wrong. You're right. Thanks for catching that. TP
Im reading on espn.com that the Clips are interested but the Celtics let the Knicks know that they have no interest in Anthony.

Melo makes a ton of money and would destroy future cap flexibility.  We basically have to include Amir in any trade for him.  Also, one of the Zeller or Jerebko contracts would probably go. All 3 of those guys are expiring (our future cap flexibility),  and those guys are just to match salary.  On top of that, we will definitely have to trade at least a young player like Rozier and a 1st rounder, if not Smart or Crowder.  We would decimate our depth, remove one of the few bigs we have on the team, become smaller and worse at rebounding (if that is possible), and ruin any chance of signing another max player until Melo is gone.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal - Carmelo would take over Amir's minutes and then some, and Carmelo's defensive rebounding %s have been essentially identical to Amir's over the last two seasons (with Carmelo defending on the perimeter more). Zeller hardly plays anyway and his minutes would just go to Mickey, which isn't a big change. Rozier leaving simply means Marcus takes over more of the off-the-bench ballhandling duties and more minutes are freed up for Jaylen and Gerald Green (plus maybe Nader comes up from the D-league and gets a shot). It becomes a matter of Amir's ability to protect the rim and bang in the paint versus the boost in offensive production you get from subbing Carmelo in for Amir at the 4 on offense.

Apparently it just came out that Celtics told the Knicks they're no longer interested in Carmelo.

Probably for the best. But with us having several opportunities to improve this team with players that are available, such as Melo, Noel, etc., and Danny not acting, he better not sit on his hands and not improve this team at all.

I'd like to have at least heard they made some sort of lowball offer and wouldn't budge. Those extra late firsts seem great until they turn into RJ Hunters and James Youngs.

That dude has no trade value.  Crowder,  maybe, the best player I'd send out. Definitely no Brooklyn picks.

I hope Ainge can pull this deal off. We'd become instant contenders.

I wouldn't be averse to trading for Melo. He's still an elite scorer and there's reason to believe he can work in a team oriented game (like in team USA). Plus, he'd play the 4 while Horford plays the 5.

Unless of course DA thinks we have a super legit shot at getting a guy like Hayward or Butler.

There is no way that Danny takes on that much salary. This is silly.. lock thread.
