McHale doesn't like the idea of this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Wh-05hX3cCarmelo is still one of the most polished scorers in the NBA, and we're putting him to next the Jack of Trades, and the King in the 4th. If any coach is able to coach these players, I lead it up to Stevens. Who were able to engage Evan Turner and even Crawford into suitable players.
I don't think our offense will worsen; in fact I think it will get even better. I'm not sure about our defense, it will maybe weaken, but we can lead Stevens and Ainge to get the right players next to Melo, Horford, and Isaiah.
That is a great trio of offensive players, that are skilled, smart, and great passers for their position.
That team is certainly better than the Raptors. And we still have a treasure trove of assets stockpiled on Ainge's desking, who's giddy like a drunk West Virginia male at a strip bar with absolutely nothing to do but let the club come up like its A Tuesday.
Melo isn't going to cost the moon. He's a better player than Crowder. Offensively. And Melo is a proven scorer in the playoffs, Olympics, and can show when put next to great players, he does just as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxqQX2Do6BwMelo is going to benefit from HOW MUCH space he'll get. Crowder has improved through hard work, and running through more screens now. But Melo will get nothing but 'splash,' on these buckets, with how wet and easy they'll be. Crowder isn't averaging close to 50/40/90 without the coincidental presence of Horford.
Horford is going to get him easy looks, and he's going to set perfectly timed picks to free up Melo.
That being all said, I don't want to give up Crowder, or Smart. Bradley its iffy for me, because I'm not sure how much he's going to cost. We can pout all we want, about keeping Bradley, but with how much he has improved offensively, and being one of our best rebounders, he's going to get paid a hefty amount. 3 and D players like him, and at under 27, are going to get overpaid substantially in the free agency.
If there is cap contract issues, I trust if there is anything who can fix any problem, its Ainge. He'll devise some crazy 3 team trade.
