I wouldn't be averse to trading for Melo. He's still an elite scorer and there's reason to believe he can work in a team oriented game (like in team USA). Plus, he'd play the 4 while Horford plays the 5.

Unless of course DA thinks we have a super legit shot at getting a guy like Hayward or Butler.

There is no way that Danny takes on that much salary. This is silly.. lock thread.

The likely alternative is giving that same money to Serge Ibaka or Gallinari. It's not clear that one situation is preferable to the other.

Just wondering, but with the rumor pretty much extinguished by ESPN.. should this thread be locked?

Seems like 95% of posters also hate the idea of adding Melo anyways

Trade with clippers likely to happen imo

To knicks: Brice Johnson, wesley johnson, Diamond Stone, Austin Rivers, 2017 1st

To Clippers: Melo
You really need to learn the salary cap or simply use espn.com's trade machine. This trade can't happen. It doesn't work under CBA rules.

From an NBA GM's perspective, this story is not news. Jackson MUST do what he can in a difficult environment to get flexibility and rebuild. Guess what? All of the GM's have known about the "Melo situation" for a years.

Jackson is going to try to get a deal done here and Ainge is in the room as he holds the necessary grease to, perhaps, assist the two other teams.

I assume Melo will end up elsewhere, but, from so many posts here please, Ainge isn't going to lose a trade and this is why...

Jackson has lots and lots of things he HAS to do NOW...Ainge on the other hand?

Danny doesn't have to do an ****ing thing.

In any deal, this is called leverage and you know who is sitting up in the rafters at the garden puffing on a Havana enjoying the "Carmelo fire sale".

If we locked every thread that proposed something with no chance of happening....we wouldn't have a lot of threads.

I really hope the Clippers hit this one out of the park. I don't want anything to do with Carmelo. At his peak he was a prime offensive player, who never played a lick of defense. He isn't even THAT player anymore. The proposed clippers deals are all looking absolutely sad for a player who was once great. I wouldn't trade Jae Crowder straight up for Carmelo at this point, and I mean that sincerely. Some might balk and say "c'mon now, this is Carmelo Anthony". I'd rather have a player who impacts both sides of the floor, even if his offensive game isn't as polished. I would love to facilitate a trade and maybe catch some assets or consolidate in the process.

I'm with you. Not to mention our offense is far from being the problem of the Celtics this season.
IT is on fire (Rockets doubling him with Beverly and Harell didn't make a difference, he scores almost 40). The pick n roll with Horford is starting to be a great weapon. This leave shooters like Crowder and AB wide open, hence their good % at 3s this season. I don't believe we'll have an offensive problem in the playoff this time (providing we have IT AB JC and Al healthy).
What will Carmelo provide for us in the playoff? Stop the ball and miss the clutch basket in game 7?
We need a good defensive big. Not lost bigs like Zeller and Mickey. Not soft Kelly who wait for the ball to fall in his hands. And (unfortunately) not an aging Amir.

PJ to Danny: Ok, I guess I'll just have to keep listening to the Clippers offer of Rivers and Crawford for him.

Expentant silence

PJ: You still there?

Danny: Yeah, I was just watching the latest highlight videos of Yabusele.

PJ: So, how has James Young been looking in practice lately?

Danny: Good, good. Really good lefty stroke.

PJ: How about Young, Johnson, and a couple of future seconds?

Danny: We like Johnson. Hey, good luck with the Rivers-Zinger core going forward. Rivers really looks like he was worth the 10 million a year his dad gave him.

You say that like it's some bold statement - the Knicks are looking at taking substantially less than Crowder. Expirings and spare parts is his value at this point. It becomes a question of whether it's worth it to get someone who can take some pressure off Isaiah in the playoffs, where his numbers have been way worse than in the regular season because teams can build defenses specifically to stop him.

Carmelo is not a good fit in Boston.

Exactly. And of course Danny would take on that much salary. The question right now is fit. I mean, the reason why guys like Amir and Zeller were signed to large, short term contracts were so they could be used as salary fillers in a big trade. I don't think it's wise (or feasible) to just not spend money and just hope a big time FA falls in your lap.
