Couldn't you just flip him again if they need cap space and haven't invested too much? I don't know, Melo absolutely makes this Celts team better and makes this season more interesting. Isn't that what sports are supposed to be about?
Would you rather Rivers, Crawford, and Johnson or Shumpert, Thompson, and Felder?Comon. This is a bidding tactic. The Cavs have to make a play, and if Rivers and Crawford is the top offer right now, the Cavs can top that with Thompson and Shumpert.

The Knicks just gauged their interest on a trade, and I highly doubt trader Danny gave Phil a hard no, since there's no report that that happened at all.Oops. Read the linked article in OP wrong. You're right. Thanks for catching that. TP

Read the article. They're hoping he'll waive his clause for cleveland or the clippers. The Celtics will be in this as facilitators only and may get a big to assist the rebounding or defense.
Melo makes a ton of money and would destroy future cap flexibility. We basically have to include Amir in any trade for him. Also, one of the Zeller or Jerebko contracts would probably go. All 3 of those guys are expiring (our future cap flexibility), and those guys are just to match salary. On top of that, we will definitely have to trade at least a young player like Rozier and a 1st rounder, if not Smart or Crowder. We would decimate our depth, remove one of the few bigs we have on the team, become smaller and worse at rebounding (if that is possible), and ruin any chance of signing another max player until Melo is gone.
https://twitter.com/CelticsLife/status/824771476578529280Apparently it just came out that Celtics told the Knicks they're no longer interested in Carmelo.Probably for the best. But with us having several opportunities to improve this team with players that are available, such as Melo, Noel, etc., and Danny not acting, he better not sit on his hands and not improve this team at all.
I wouldn't be averse to trading for Melo. He's still an elite scorer and there's reason to believe he can work in a team oriented game (like in team USA). Plus, he'd play the 4 while Horford plays the 5.Unless of course DA thinks we have a super legit shot at getting a guy like Hayward or Butler.
