Horford should take the money and run.

He is not going to sniff that type of payday in 4 years time.

I don't think he really wants to lose in the second round every year for the rest of his career, though. He was a two-time college champion, and this team isn't giving him an NBA champion, whatever they choose to do with Milsap.

We have a much higher ceiling than Atlanta, especially with our assets moving forward.

He's also had 2 season ending pectoral surgeries. Maybe he's prioritizing financial security over winning for right now.

Talking about "financial security" for these players is non-sense. He'll have plenty of "financial security" with a four year max in Boston. Nobody needs that much money.

Yeah we are basically praying Atlanta doesn't offer a full five year max. If they do, we were just leverage all along.

This is where I'm at. He's waiting them out for the full max offer. Otherwise, we leak the stories of us being one of two frontrunners and issuing the deadline for this evening?

But it is not that simple, right?  Atlanta has to make room for him by trading someone.

Horford is supposedly the core of Atlantas team culture and roster building strategy. So it always seemed odd to me that he'd be half out the door. Especially since they beat us fairly convincingly in the playoffs.

The fisherman has hit a snag.  Chipotle Danny needs to spice up his burrito somehow.

So, if Durant would agree to come here if Horford does, couldn't we just up the offer and offer both Durant AND Horford a 1 + 1 deal? I think that would stump any offer from the Hawks, and we'd essentially have to do it if that was the only way to get both of them here.

They can clear out Splitter and other bench guys, but you have to figure Milsap is most likely to get an actual return.

Sources: Market for Paul Millsap has been strong, flurry of calls, trade proposals. Several teams tell me they've been active talking to ATL

Yep this entire time ATL has been shopping Millsap. Feels like a formality at this point.

I think the alleged link between Durant's and Horford's decision is likely fictional.

With our All-Defense, second leading scorer starting 2 guard out, Jae playing on one ankle, and KO essentially not even there..

Exactly. If you want to say he values more money over winning, sure, but don't talk about financial security. He's not a young player looking for his first big contract, Horford has already gotten paid and then some, and will again with whichever team he choses.

So, just got home, and I'm not really wanting to fully read through fifteen pages of missed pages in this thread.

Where are we at? It seems like Atlanta is still trying to woo Horford on coming there without offering him the full max, though offering all five years. Horford so far is resisting.

Is this essentially him waiting on the Durant meeting? If Durant would agree to come here if Horford does, I really can't see him going back to a very, very suspect fit in Atlanta. There's just simply no way that a Milsap/Horford/Howard lineup will work, and right now they're worse as a team than they were with Teague and Horford last year instead of Horford.

Sound about right for the status we are at right now?

Pretty much correct , except that Atlanta is looking hard to move Milsap so that they can officially offer Horford his deal, which makes no sense to me. They could have just not signed one of Howard or Bazemore if that was the case, as Milsap is better than all of them.

I will be so, so disappointed in Horford if he goes back to Atlanta, regardless of what happens with him and Milsap. There's just no way that a Horford/Howard tandem at the 4/5 is going to work. None. Nada. That team is the definition of a treadmill team, and it's obvious. So he'd essentially be choosing money over winning, which is ridiculous when they make as much as they do already..

Yeah, I mean he has gotten swept by Cleveland back to back years. He has an oppurtunity to help us build something in Boston, but money is clearly more important to him.

Sure, but everybody has injury issues in the playoffs. Those are fair points, but probably not how Horford is likely to see it.
