It looks like today's theme is being deeply upset that a player might figure out that a 5 year max >>> 4 year max, especially at 30.  I'd like Horford here but an ability to figure out which of two numbers is bigger doesn't mean he's stabbing us in the back somehow.

So, just got home, and I'm not really wanting to fully read through fifteen pages of missed pages in this thread.

Where are we at? It seems like Atlanta is still trying to woo Horford on coming there without offering him the full max, though offering all five years. Horford so far is resisting.

Is this essentially him waiting on the Durant meeting? If Durant would agree to come here if Horford does, I really can't see him going back to a very, very suspect fit in Atlanta. There's just simply no way that a Milsap/Horford/Howard lineup will work, and right now they're worse as a team than they were with Teague and Horford last year instead of Horford.

Sound about right for the status we are at right now?

Horford should take the money and run.

He is not going to sniff that type of payday in 4 years time.

I don't think he really wants to lose in the second round every year for the rest of his career, though. He was a two-time college champion, and this team isn't giving him an NBA champion, whatever they choose to do with Milsap.

We have a much higher ceiling than Atlanta, especially with our assets moving forward.

It looks like the same site twittering at bill simmons.  "intends" is the key word there.  Just seems like sites looking for clicks. People are ****s.

Those gambling sites that were reporting that last night, trying to get people to throw money at betting houses are the worst.

Pretty much correct , except that Atlanta is looking hard to move Milsap so that they can officially offer Horford his deal, which makes no sense to me. They could have just not signed one of Howard or Bazemore if that was the case, as Milsap is better than all of them.

Honestly, we all know that Atlanta isn't a championship-level team regardless what happens with Horford.

If he chooses money over winning, then he's no better than Anthony staying in New York for the big payday, and he doesn't belong on this team. There, I said it.

Yeah we are basically praying Atlanta doesn't offer a full five year max. If they do, we were just leverage all along.

He's also had 2 season ending pectoral surgeries. Maybe he's prioritizing financial security over winning for right now.

So Atlanta upped their offer by including a 5th year in the deal but it's still not a max contract, and their ability to sign Horford is contingent upon offloading Millsap. Doesn't strike me as being a legit threat to our offer, especially since we could add an additional year and still offer the max contract.

I will be so, so disappointed in Horford if he goes back to Atlanta, regardless of what happens with him and Milsap. There's just no way that a Horford/Howard tandem at the 4/5 is going to work. None. Nada. That team is the definition of a treadmill team, and it's obvious. So he'd essentially be choosing money over winning, which is ridiculous when they make as much as they do already..

This is where I'm at. He's waiting them out for the full max offer. Otherwise, we leak the stories of us being one of two frontrunners and issuing the deadline for this evening?

A much higher ceiling, and he should know that first hand given that he played against us this year.

At the end of the day there are other things to consider outside of basketball.  The guy has to want to move here for 4 years.  He has to like the current players.  Has to like the coach and trust the GM.

I think we checked all those boxes but it is smart for Horford (or his agent) to get the absolute most from ATL that he can.

One report I read is that this 5th year is not new. Its been on the table all along.

that said, I agree. I still think we are the favorites to land him. Honestly I dont understand why Atlanta would bring him back. Milsap fits better with Howard and honestly is the better player. They must be worried about his next contract, but its hard to imagine hed get much more than the 26 mil Horfords getting.
