Woj - Horford Decision Expected Saturday Evening (ATL upping offer)

I feel like he's just waiting out Atlanta for the five year max. Eventually they will offer it to him and he will probably take it. He's already been offered the 4 year max by us so there is nothing else for him to wait on. The longer this decision drags out the less of a chance I believe we have.

The Atlanta Hawks cannot physically offer a 5 year max.As it is, they'd have to trade players for space to sign him to a remotely close contract.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't they just trade Milsap for wiggle room? They should have a slew of teams who can absorb his contract outright. Then it just comes down to the order the deals are signed in since they have full bird right on Horford and can go over cap?

Ok, yes they could do that...but why? Millsap is so much better in my opinion. He was an absolute animal for them in the playoffs.

The reasoning would be that they don't want to pay him full max next year when he's a free agent and the cap jumps again
I 'd rather have him than Horford too, all things being equal, but if he costs us assets im less excited. I would rather have Horford as a free agent than get Millsaps at the cost of an asset.

Horford is supposed to make a decision tonight and KD is meeting again with OKC tomorrow, so i think that's unlikely.

Imagine this is us in 2018. We spend all season telling Isaiah we want him back. And then...

1. We refuse to give him the five year max
2. While he's talking to other teams, we sign Kemba Walker.
3. We then resign Avery Bradley, so we can't actually sign Isaiah without dumping salary.

Would you think he'd be coming back?

Horford isn't necessarily coming to Boston, but he's certainly not going back to Atlanta.

They can talk and Horford can say were he's going. If it's Boston the meeting With OKC would be "it's not you it's me" break up. Or if Horford decides OKC it's Durant telling them he'll stay.
