It seems that the ones that really want Noel haven't seen him play much and just go off of his defensive stats, height, and athleticism. The other camp that feels he's overrated understands the holes in his game by watching him closely.

I think the exact opposite is true. Rating Noel on stats is misunderstanding and underestimating his capabilities, not unlikely Smart. But it's hardly a reach to imagine that most have watched Smart more than Noel on this board...

You have to add in all Noel's intangibles that have helped lead his team to a victory and his cornerstone place on one of the worst teams in NBA modern history.   If you can't put up numbers on lowly Philly, where can you put up numbers?

That's true. However, that may lead many to succumb to the belief the grass is greenier. Let Noel come to the C's and you'll see how quickly people will jump on his many warts.

Would they be more interested in Bradley ?  Or Smart ?

I'd give up Bradley, Sullinger, and Boston's own 2016 first round pick for Noel.

I Noel, but I'm not really interested in giving much value for him. If we're going to give out value, I want something more assured. He's too much of a question mark for my tastes right now, even if in hindsight it might look like a mistake not going after him. I'll err in the side of caution.

Perhaps some place that wouldn't have you play out of position, like the 76ers of last year? That was when Philly was 12th in defensive efficiency with Noel at C. Tied with your Boston Celtics.

Also, 10 pts, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks are pretty decent numbers for a 20-year old rookie, if that's how you're inclined to judge a player.

Not giving them Bradley. I think it's far from a given that Smart will ever be as good as Bradley.

I give up anyone not named Marcus Smart. You wanna talk about two young studs to build around? Our paint and perimeter wouldn't have to worry with those two on the floor. Offensive game plans for us would be thin for options and players would be timid coming into our building

Could be true.  But then again, people like you were dumping Bradley for peanuts just a couple of years ago.

He's a great fit for this defensive minded team.  Smart, Bradley, Crowder, Noel.....

Bradley at his worst a couple of years ago was probably better overall than Smart is right now. And while he was absolutely expendable, I don't think anyone wanted to give him away. Certainly not me.

Wrong.  Smart looks like a great defender and good to decent player in other areas who just can't shoot or has much of a first step.  Bradley at his worst looked like hot garbage who literally couldn't do ANYTHING on the court except pressure ball handlers.

Right. Smart at his best probably looks better than Bradley at his worst. The problem is, when he's not at his best, Smart has been exactly the same hot mess.

I am surprised how much some people are willing to give up for Nerlens Noel.  I think if the deal starts with Noel for Smart, I am already pausing.  I like it because I think we need a center more than a PG but trading or trading for either player is risky.  I remain high on Smart, but there is risk; durability and projecting development are big "ifs".  I don't know what to make of Noel, I just don't know his game well enough, but what I saw last season was promising.

I am guessing that something like Smart for Noel isn't going to happen, too much risk for both teams as compared to the potential reward.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I think we could get Noel without giving up Smart. I'd give them Rozier, Young the mavs first and a bunch of seconds for Noel.

I can see Noel becoming a useful offensive player if he's playing with 4 four spacers that allow him to roll hard to the hoop without anyone waiting in the paint
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
