Agree this is a pretty thin 'rumor', but i like it anyway.

This deal:

I don't think they'll give us Covington. But swap him with Canaan, and I'm sure they'll talk.

What -- you don't agree with the 2 dozen folks who voted: Celtics say 'no'?
Apparently not. I guess I just don't like guards that make Rajon Rondo look like Ray Allen :P

I know many like Noel a lot, but his offensive limitations are just too much for me to feel comfortable with the Celts giving up what they'd have to give up to convince the Sixers to trade him.

Maybe you overestimate what it would take to get him. After all, having him stand around and watch Okafor in the post isn't exactly doing wonders for his trade value....

It's doing wonders for their draft pick.

Too bad draft picks don't win you games.

Smart, Dallas 1st, and Philly's 2nd back to them for Noel.  Money wise, it's a push and they appear to be in need of a PG.

Yea/Nay?

I'm a Yea.
That is "sourced" by BleacherReport by via Philly beat writer who points to a random Twitter user who says the Celtics "like" Noel. I'd go out on a limb here and call bull.

If there are any conversations, they probably start with Smart and one of the Nets picks. Which I doubt.

Smart AND a Brooklyn pick? This isn't a Cousins thread - I doubt Noel would be worth either (especially a BKN pick), but I would probably trade Smart straight up if forced to make a decision. I know it's an unpopular opinion right now and I absolutely love Smart's intensity / leadership, but I'd rather have a center who can't shoot than a guard who can't.

I think that's what they'll ask. I don't think Smart is some sort of a hot commodity around the league. What the side observer sees is a one-trick pony who's struggled to stay healthy (or in the lineup, for that matter).

I'm quite baffled by this reaction. Noel is 21, and had a great rookie year last season when the 76ers didn't have him play out of position. Smart, on the other hand, is somewhat redundant and the team has done mostly fine with him out of the lineup.

Rozier, Hunter, Dallas 1st, Wolves pick and Philly pick should get it done. Rozier and Hunter have plenty of upside and would fit well with Philly wanting to start turning things around next year.
Rozier, Hunter, Ingram, Saric, Okafor.

No disrespect intended here at all (more implied laziness on my part), but it's annoying enough to have to click once to see someone's trade idea, never-mind twice. I'm sure it's a good one though, sspence, as i usually like your trade ideas.

I think that it's just popular opinion in general amongst teams with young, highly touted players. While it may often make sense for teams to make a trade; once a player has made an impact for his team, that team rarely trades that player unless they are seriously not fitting in. It seems teams often wait until it's too late (and no longer has value) before they are finally willing to let a lottery pick go.

Smart is likely overrated in the Cs organization right now, you are right about that - all we can hope for is that he can finally break out.

Sure, they'll ask. But that's not a realistic deal. The BKLN pick is the most valuable asset of the 3 being discussed -- Ainge isn't trading it for a role player, if at all (likely highest pick he's ever had) -- even if Noel could be really really good.

Meanwhile, Colangelo is going to be very sensitive to more "NBA player for a future pick" deals anyway.

if true, i think that the celtics would have the leverage in the deal.. unlikely to give up Smart since Nerlens is essentially not-wanted by Philly. Nerlens has also regressed as an offensive player, so where would he even be in the C's big-man rotation. I'd give up any expiring contract, Jared or Kelly, and that Dallas pick.

I agree, see what the asking price is for Nerlen from us, and see if we can pry him away without touching Smart or the Net's pick. I'd gladly trade Dallas' pick for Noel, or Dallas and our own pick for Noel (which both should be right outside the lotto).

It's really hard to know what is going on in the Philly organization or disorganization but I can't help but believe that their asking price will be the Brooklyn pick to give them even more pingpong balls for Simmons and a good shot at two picks in the top 4 or 5.
