I can't believe we have 2 more seasons of scrutinizing Nets and other teams results, schedules, transactions, injuries, etc, and fretting lol

It's fun though, and it helps our team. So I'm all for it
not to mention a possible similar situation with Memphis in 2021

I forgot about that.  :)

So it will be 2019 Top 8 protected, 2020 Top 6 protected, 2021 unprotected. 2019's protection is going to be like watching the Mavs pick this year. No idea how they'll look then, as Marc Gasol seems to be the only current notable player under contract that long (~24 million in 2018-2019, player option for ~25 mil in 2019-2020)

Also - this is crazy.  Aaron Gordon dunked from the free throw line this game - I just didn't turn the game on until after it happened.  Watch this vine, it's bananas:

TP to Aaron Gordon if he ever makes an account on this site, anybody who does this to the Nets is okay in my book.

What was with the limited minutes for Lopez?  Did he get hurt?

The game was such a blowout from the beginning that they essentially just rested him

I think more like a lottery run on the behalf of the Celtics :D

Let me get this thread going tonight with a hearty Go Suns!  Up 4 in Milwaukee after 1.

A T-Wolves win over the Clips would be nice to put the nail in the 4th/5th place coffin, but they are hosting the Clips and down 10.  If the lotto gods could grant us one of these, it's Suns!

Also, the Nets will likely finish with under 25 wins this season. Unless they sign Mike Conley and DeMar DeRozan or they somehow sign Durant, I will be very annoyed if someone expects them to approach close 35 wins next season. Especially considering how good the East is.

It will be another lottery pick next season.

Get ready to be annoyed during the off-season then. Take a look at the early part of this thread for the usual suspects.

Let's see what they make for changes. Lopez and Thad is a good foundation, and they've got some solid role players. If they can add a good PG, 35 wins wouldn't be crazy. I mean, Deron Williams was basically the difference between a bad playoff team and the 4th worst record in the NBA.

Does giving Mike Conley a max deal get them to 30 to 35 wins? It might.

I expect them to be better next year. the whole core will presumably return (Lopez and Young)

then Jack should be back (but achilles are tough), RHJ, McColough and Larkin will all be improved and even if they dont add a really good player there will be plenty of OK guys out there willing to go get overpaid and then be decent.

This will result in the Nets being probably mediocre. In a way too early pre-offseason prediction Id expect they win 30-35 games probably closer to 35.

Then again, this season I thought theyd convey a pick in the 7-12 range, and only after losing Deron Williams did I believe 7-10 would be more likely than 10-12.

Unfortunately down at the half but still in it.   Really a big game tonight.  If Suns can take the Bucks, Brooklyn's at Cleveland tomorrow and can slide back into a tie in the win column.

I know there is another thread, but tonight a very big night for the other pick with Utah at GSW and Dallas at home against NY.  Need an upset by the Jazz.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
The Nets could add a decent PG but they aren't  dramatically improving IMO.
Free agents have better options (at least the top free agents).
Other poor teams in the NBA are getting better or they have a better foundation with thensame or better cap room. Eg New York.
Let's look at the Eastern conference:
Bucks
Magic
Knicks
Detroit
Pacers
Charlotte
Are all in better positions going into next year.
Even in the West, the Lakers with cap room, the Wolves, the Suns with Bledsoe returning and Booker absolutely killing it.
Which teams are the Nets going to be certainly better than?
Maybe the Kings and 76ers...maybe the Lakers ifnthey can't  sign anyone.
The Nets have hamstrung themselves via Billy King and Danny Ainge.

If anyone can tell me some players they can add via free agency that will make them a playoff team I'd be happy to hear it.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Agreed. Right now the nets only draft pick will be the 56th overall pick. Everyone and I mean everyone will have cap space next year so the fact Brooklyn has money doesn't mean anything. Their only realistic chance of dramatically improving are internal development of current players which is unlikely and adding a key free agent which is unlikely.

The nets will almost undoubtedly be a lotto team for the next three years.

Also they got lucky with Brooke Lopez health this year. He likely just experienced the healthiest year he will have in his career. Typically guys with his durability history don't play this many consecutive games. Doubt he has that happen again.
