So if I am understanding this correctly, is this how this rumored scenario would go down?

Lakers get Cousins
Magic get Julius Randle.
Sacramento gets Vucevic and the no 2 pick.

If so, this actually is pretty fair for all 3 teams (though the thought of seeing Cousins in purple and gold would sicken me as I really want him in Boston.)

Lakers get a new franchise guy alongside Kobe, Orlando gets a very good young player in Randle and probably drafts Cauley Stein with their pick to replace Vucevic and Sacramento actually ends up with a nice front court of Okafor and Vucevic.

But, would this trade even work numbers wise?

I am assuming it would probably have to wait til after July 1st when all off the Lakers free agents are off the book as right now they have no cap space.

Why would the magic do this trade?  Vucevic seems way more valuable than Randle right?

Presumably, the Magic get #6 as well. I'm with you though. I don't get why the Magic don't value Vucevic more highly. He averaged the most quiet 20-10 I've ever seen.

Might have something to do with his poor defense.

I want Cousins but I don't care if LA gets him, who are they going to put out there with him if they don't get players this season? Kobe may not make it a full season and even if he does, they still do nothing in the west. They probably take the 8th seed and then what? Don't they owe that pick if it isn't a top 5 again? What assets will they have to add talent if no one wants to play with KoMe this season and if Boogie can't draw enough talent after Kome is gone because the west is so good? Boogie will just be in another losing situation and will probably leave as soon as he can. I'll look for DA to scoop up a prime Boogie in 3yrs as a FA if we don't pick up some guys b4 then. :D

The only team I see dropping off in a major way in the next 3 years is probably the Spurs, Boogie will need a lot of help to find his way into the playoffs in that conference. I know people will speak about it being the Lakers and they always find a way but it wont be that easy!

Edit: They need the big name FAs this off season b/c the good teams are going to have space to add another big name soon and if I'm that big named person I go and play with them instead of Cousins and "no one!"

Why on earth would the Magic trade Vucevic straight up for Randle?  Vuc is one of the best young centers in the game. He averaged nearly 20/11 last season. The magic aren't trading him for an undersized PF that can't guard at all and that's played exactly 14 NBA minutes . I'd have to think that the 6th pick goes to Orlando in this hypothetical scenario.  The Lakers would also have to ship out another piece to Sacto, likely Clarkson, who is their only other positive asset.

You're right. The more I think about it, the Magic get absolutely hosed and also have no clue why they would deal Vucevic for Randle. This would also really p--- me off if this happened because Orlando essentially would've been a culprit in the Lakers getting Cousins.

Celts NEED Cousins. He's one guy that would be the perfect piece in us getting another banner.

Yah, no way.  They would need to be seriously insane.

Vucevic is so much better than I can imagine Randle ever even hoping to become.

Yeah, after shipping off Shaq and Howard to LAL, the last thing we need is for Orl to facilitate another superstar center going there. It would especially hurt since we really want Cousins, too.

Listening to socal talk radio, I don't get the impression LA is willing to part with #2 for Cousins.    Certainly not #2 and Randle...

It's also been pointed out numerous times that LA trades never play out publicly like this, would guess all this LA stuff if posturing by Vlade to squeeze more picks out of Ainge.

I don't think he'll be traded unless they are blown away with an offer.  Nobody of any credibility is saying he's going to be traded.  At best they are saying the coach wants him traded.  However, the GM and the owner (the power people) have consistently said no, so until that changes it's not happening.

If Lakers are offering #2 and Randle for Cousins, Sacramento be crazy to turn that down..Okafor or Towns  and Randle be a very good combo for years to come

Okafor and Randle actually isn't a very good fit.  They are both interior offensive players that aren't defenders.  I think I still probably make the trade given it is solid value for an unhappy player, but I would expect Sacto to move Randle at some point for a better fit next to Okafor.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

on paper, it makes sense.  thing is, they'd still have the #6 pick as well.  if they trade for Okafor/Randle and keep that #6...are they really going to expect to have any kind of success starting three rookies?

Collison
Mclemore
Winslow
Randle
Okafor

tons of potential...to land a top 5 pick next year
