The Kings really have no reason whatsoever to deal Cousins. I think this is just the other teams fishing and hoping Cousins gets the message and demands a trade, because that's the only way the Kings feel any pressure at all to unload him. He's young, talented, and locked up on a multiyear deal - what's the point in dealing him and starting over yet again?

In two years when he only has one year remaining on his deal and the team is still horrible, that will be the time when he becomes available.

Then why do we keep hearing he's available? I would have no doubt Kings could unload for the right price..

I actually think more guys will want to play for LA once Kobe leaves.

This sucks for the Celtics, but it also proves the Celtics don't have the assets to pull a Cousins trade. Also, this opens the window for Kevin Love signing there. Lakers getting Cousins is basically the worst case scenario as a Celtics fan.

Let's get those tanks rolling boys!

Dang, and they can still sign Rondo.

Rondo, Kobe, Randle, Love, and Cousins? That is one dangerous lineup in the West lol

@EricPincus
I'd have to dig into all scenarios to see if there was a legal 3-way deal possible b/ w Lakers, Kings, Magic in June - Vucevic poison pill

I dunno, maybe it is just me, but I don't think the lakers are very high on the list of teams that Sac would want to deal with for Cousins.  Trading Cousins to another western conf team in their division will just make it that much harder for Sac and doesn't make any sense for them.

Of course the Lakers would love to ramp up rumors like this, they have nothing to lose.

true.

it must be me but I don't see how Randle is seen like he's a big asset at this point.  the guy missed all of last year and was a 7 pick (behind Smart no less).  Kings would have to be idiots to trade Cousins for basically Randle and Okafor without having seen either one play in the league yet.  that'd be a defensive sieve on the court

It would have to be the pick,  Clarkson and Randle.   I don't think that's enough.  Why does Randle and his no knees have any value at all?

The people who actually matter, the Kings say he's not available.  That's the end of the story.  The rest is just rumors.  Even in the ESPN article that makes this claim they quote Divac as saying he's NOT AVAILABLE...
not available.  Writers make up rumors.

Yeah I don't know how Randle is seen as such an asset either.  It feels like somehow his value went up because of the injury based on a lot of the trade talk out there.  I am still glad we got Smart instead of Randle...

this is why acquiring Cousins was never a viable scenario for us.

Dont even mention Julius Randle, the #2 pick itself trumps anything we could offer
When you consider that Smart and Randle have comparable trade value... and it would be almost impossible for us to trade up to #2 this year... yeah... there's zero chance we'd get Cousins if #2 + Randle isn't enough for them.

Smart is more valuable than Randle. Smart was a higher pick, and proved that he has all-star potential but can contribute now. Not only was Randle a lesser prospect last season but with the injury concerns and the fact he hasn't play a full NBA game yet make him worth less than Smart.

The #2 pick is of great value. But that's about all LA has to offer. Okafor isn't Lebron or Davis, he's not a sure fire top 5-10 player. Divac might be Smart enough to realize just those two assets wont be enough to rebuild his team. I still maintain They may rather have an offer from us that will include much more flexibility in a rebuild.

Because all a team has to do is tell a reporter, "We're actively trying to acquire so-and-so" and it becomes news even if the other team has no intention of trading the player. The hope is that the media attention will create pressure and momentum towards a potential trade, most likely in the form that the player hears about the interest and thinks to himself, "Hey, LA might be a good spot for me. Maybe I can pout and sit out and force Sac to deal me."

Imo kings dont want Randle. But what might happen

To Kings- Clarkson, 2nd pick , 16th pick, 45th
To Lakers: Cousins, 28th
To Celtics: Randle (after medical check)

Celts lineup

Zeller/KO/Holmes
Sully/Randle/Holmes
Turner/Crowder
Smart/Young
