The CT scan a few days ago showed "something different" in the healing of the bone that sustained the stress fracture almost exactly a year ago. The Sixers, no doubt, will try to find out just what course of action to take: surgery, a short stint of inactivity or a layoff that could include Embiid missing the two summer leagues next month.

Another source, contacted yesterday, said that Embiid is now wearing a protective boot.

They still do not know whether this is precautionary, minor or a serious injury. But clearly there is something wrong with Embiid back in the protective boot.
So basically exactly what happened in March?

I haven't read anything that says this is a new injury.  On the Philly forums, there have cut and paste some commentary from doctors who are familiar with Embiid's injury.  You can look it up yourself if you care.  There are several stages of recovery.  At this late stage, if it's still not fully healed after rigorous workouts, they suggested that rest was the best medicine.  This happened in March when they put him in a protective boot and were eventually able to continue the rigorous workload.  This sounds similar.  Not sure if it's serious or not.

Kind of starting to remind me of this

Embiid could be moving with only the assistance of a mechanical wheelchair and he'll talk about how the it's a ploy to get a certain player in the draft.

The timetable was 5-8 months and here we are with a 7 footer who has had injury issues in high school then a stress injury in college and a foot stress injury in the pros and we are 11 months in and he still has a boot on? This is not good news for Philly at all.

Not apocalyptic, that comes later, but no Philly fan should hear this news and say "oh thats fine, no worries here"

If they have another surgery... obviously that's terrible.

Did they announce another surgery yet?... or is he just back in the cautionary boot?

5-8 months to begin activity... takes about a year for it to be fully healed.  All we've heard is that it's not fully healed.  I doubt they want to risk their franchise player by sending him into summer league if he's not 100%

ah, I read the quote incorrectly.

As you have noted this is why it is not time to completely panic. Philly has not announced that he will miss next year or even part of it or that he will need surgery.

However, the fact remains that a 7 footer who has been hurt his entire athletic career is not healing from a stress related injury at the expected rate. This is unequivocally not good and rather worrying.

wow, I really wanted him last year, I guess we are lucky the Sixers drafted him. He would have probably slid to us if they had not, as he refused to share medical records with UT or ORL (4 and 5).And Danny stated that he would have drafted him had he been there at 6.

What a shame, though. This guy is such an incredible athlete.

the Greg Oden 2.0 Freightfest is why a player widely believed to be "by far" the best player of the 2014 draft fell to #3.   Noel was widely believed to be the best prospect of the 2012 draft and he fell to 6th.  That gamble seems to have paid off... it's still too early to say whether or not the Embiid gamble paid off.  If he is out another season, that's a big problem.   Them putting him into a protective boot?... seems to lend credence to the belief that they need the soft tissue to build up more before they have him play summer league in 23 days.  The NBA season isn't for another 5 months.

There is a "legitimate chance" Joel Embiid (foot) could miss the 2015-16 season entirely, a source told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
That would be absolutely devastating for Sam Hinkie, the Sixers and their fan base. Right now, there is way too much uncertainty to read too deeply into any of these reports, but this situation is escalating quickly and doesn't appear to be going down a positive path. Embiid has no timeline to return at this point, and he is not expected to play in summer league.
